Mangaluru, Jul 16: In a tragic incident that occurred on the morning of Sunday, July 15, a boy who had gone to have bath in the stone quarry at Jari near Gundavu Padavu close to the old airport under Malavoor gram panchayat limits, lost his slipped and fell into the deep red stone quarry and lost his life.

Sanjay Kumar (16) is the unfortunate victim of this mishap. He had gone out of his home at 8.30 am in the morning saying that he will go to his friend's house. He went to Gundavu Padavu with this friend Ranjeet, a native of Hosadurga, who works as a welder at Kinnipadavu near Bajpe. They got down into the water in the red stone quarry which is filled with water due to the incessant rains in the past few days. Both of them did not know swimming.

First Sanjay got down into the water and he slipped from a stone and drowned. Ranjeet tried to save Sanjay and also made a loud cry for help. Purushottam, who had come to wash his bike in the stone quarry called other people for help. Locals youths Sanu, Sudarshan, and Kartik brought Sanjay up from the water and gave him first aid and made him to vomit the water that he had drunk while drowning and took him to the primary health center at Bajpe. However, he breathed his last on the way to a hospital in Mangaluru.

Post-mortem of Sanjay's body was done in the Wenlock hospital of Mangaluru and then the body was taken to his native place Bagalkote.

A case stands registered against the owner of the stone quarry, who has not taken any safety measure like building a protection wall around the quarry, for negligence as per the information given by the police.

Sanjay was a first PU student of Kateel pre-university college. He is the son of Savitri, who is the junior assistant of women health at Bajpe primary health center and Ellappa, who is a driver by profession. They are natives of Bagalkote. Savitri had come to Bajpe in 2015 and they resided close to a house near the primary health center.

2 years old babies don't learn to swim but when babies are born they are all able to float and swim due to reflex action but eventually all babies forget this skill owing to some unknown phenomenon. Just don't write a comment without checking facts just bcos you saw something in a WhatsApp vidoe or something.

When somebody dies then everybody in the area wakes up. After few days every body forgets. The people's representatives, right from the Panchayat member till MLA should take the onus to straighten the sleeping Bureaucrats to initiate action against the defaulters. If the owners of the query are charged with murder, immaterial with his Political affiliations, things may look better.
