5 killed in S.Korea's military copter crash


Seoul, Jul 17 (IANS): Five soldiers were killed and one was injured in a military helicopter crash on Tuesday in South Korea's Pohang city, authorities said.

The chopper crashed at the landing strip of a military unit in Pohang, South Gyeongsang province, at about 4.45 p.m., Xinhua news agency reported.

Among the six soldiers aboard the ill-fated MUH1 chopper, five were killed and one was wounded.

The helicopter reportedly fell down from about 10 metres high in the air while making a test-flight after maintenance. It was burned to ashes.

While extinguishing the fire, one firefighter was also injured. The Marine Corps command was quoted as saying it would form a committee to investigate the exact cause of the incident.
