MP couple jailed for bribery

Jabalpur, Jul 18 (IANS): A District Court here has jailed a woman revenue Officer and her husband for four years and fined them Rs 4,000 each.

Lokayukta Special Prosecutor Prashant Shukla said on Wednesday: "On January 13, 2016, Vipin Pandey had registered a complaint with the Lokayukta that the revenue officer Sangeeta Usrethe asked for a Rs 3,000 bribe when he asked her to complete the documentation of his land papers."

A Lokayukta team then sent a decoy to Usrethe's house. While the revenue officer refused to "touch bribery money", she asked for it to be handed over to her husband.

A case was then lodged against the couple and the bribery money was recovered.
