Rs 1,484 crore spent on PM Modi’s foreign trips: Govt

New Delhi, Jul 20 (NIE): An expenditure of Rs 1,484-crore was incurred on chartered flights, maintenance of aircraft and hotline facilities during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to 84 countries since June 2014, according to the government.

The details of Modi’s foreign travel expenditure under the three heads were shared in Rajya Sabha by MoS, External Affairs, V K Singh.

According to the data, a total of Rs 1088.42 crore was spent on maintenance of the prime minister’s aircraft and Rs 387.26 crore on chartered flights during the period between June 15, 2014 and June 10, 2018. The total expenditure on hotline was Rs 9.12 crore.

Modi visited a total of 84 countries in 42 foreign trips since taking over as prime minister in May 2014. According to Singh’s reply, the prime minister visited a maximum of 24 countries in 2015-16 followed by 19 in 2017-18 and 18 nations in 2016-17.

In 2014-15, Modi visited 13 countries — Bhutan was the first he visited as prime minister in June 2014. In 2018, he travelled to 10 countries with the last one being to China last month.

The cost for chartered flights to overseas destinations in 2014-15 was Rs 93.76 crore while in 2015-16, it was Rs 117 crore. In 2016-17, the cost was Rs 76.27 crore and in 2017-18, expense on chartered flight was Rs 99.32 crore.

“Diplomatic outreach during this period (since May 2014) has included first ever visits from India to several countries at the head of government level,” Singh said. He said the outreach has led to enhanced engagement of India’s foreign partners in its flagship programmes.

    Can we list few more countries left for our PM to travel, so that he can plan that travel as well. ! Great going dear PM saheb. At whose cost are these trips? What is given is like tip of the Ice burg, as this only tells us about his flights & it's maintenance. Then what about his security? Hotel Stays, sight seeing vehicles cost / security abroad, expensive gifts to carry, expensive suits to wear with matching shoes - so it is suit / boot etc??
    So we pay GST, we pay taxes, we fulfill our duties as a responsible citizen of India and we try our best to help Indian Govt to eradicate poverty. This makes our belief bleak on systems as whose " Achche Din " are we talking about PM Saheb? Yours or ours? It clearly shows : It is " YOUR ACHCHE DIN " that have been n surely not your peoples. !!
    God save our politicians & God please save us from these politicians as well. Where are we leading to? Which path are we heading to? We do not know and Politicians do not know what they are doing & what they are supposed to do.!

    The P.M. has played ducks and drakes with the hard earned money of the hapless tax payers. The people can see all that is happening around them but we are helpless to the loot that is taking place in the name of development. I am sure no patriotic Indian would approve of all that is going around. By no stretch of imagination is Rs. 1484 a small figure. For all you know, the figure could be much more than this as well. The Congress looted the country through the front door. The BJP is looting from the back door. The result is the same. The losers are the people of this country.

    @Dev Kumar,
    Azad Kashmir is not under the authority of Pakistan.
    It has separate President,PM and other ministers and courts.
    So how Pakistan can give it to India.

    From nation's perspective, the only outcome of all that money spent is - miserably failed and ridiculed hugplomacy. Of course, some corporate fat cats have filled their coffers by bagging some mega deals in defence and energy.
