Mangaluru, Jul 20: Police Commissioner T R Suresh said, “We are not bound by any rules whilst taking action against owners who park their vehicles on roads which leads to traffic congestion.”

He was speaking in the weekly phone-in programme at police commissioner's office on Friday, July 20. He said, “Recently, we found that lot of vehicles were parked outside marriage halls that led to traffic congestion on public roads. We have not restricted ourselves only to take action against vehicles parked outside marriage halls, but also those parked on the roads.

A caller from Nandigudde complained about garages in the stretch of Kotichennaya circle to KMC Attavar, repairing vehicles on the road leading to inconvenience to the public and school going children.

While a caller from Jeppu complained about road side parking in the stretch of Kankanady - Valencia - Jeppu leading to traffic congestion in the area, a couple of other callers raised similar parking issues in Baikampaady and Surathkal.

A caller from Katipalla complained lack of seats for senior citizens and not providing tickets at concession rates in private buses.

Another caller from GH Road complained that there was no bus stand on GHS road, “We can notice lot of two wheelers parked on the either sides of the road in the area which makes it difficult for passengers to board buses,” he said.

A caller from Bejai urged to install humps near Bejai museum as vehicles approach at high speeds in the area. Police commissioner T R Suresh said, “We will examine the road and if required will definitely install humps in the area.”

Another caller from Kadri complained about buses stopping under Kadri dwara for passengers leading to traffic problems.

A caller from Bunder complained about a building which is on the verge of collapsing. Police commissioner T R Suresh said, "We will ask the corporation authorities to clear the building and take necessary action.

While a caller from Kodical complained about buses arriving to Kodical skipping their trip in the night, another caller complained about vehicles parked on the either sides of the road at Vas Lane.

A caller from Bejai complained that buses going to State Bank were sometimes diverted at Jail Road leaving passengers going to PVS high and dry.

As many as 33 calls were received during the programme.

The phone-in programme is held every Friday from 10 am to 11 am where callers can call on 0824–2220801 and 0824–2220830 and can directly express their grievances to the police commissioner.

DCP Crime and traffic Uma Prashanth, DCP law and order Hanumanthraya, ACP traffic Manjunath Shetty and others were present.
