Kundapur, Jul 21: Police, under the leadership of Kundapur station inspector Harish, conducted surprise inspection of school vehicles here on Saturday, July 21. As schools had half- day classes on Saturday, police intercepted school vehicles that were taking children back from school.
The checks were conducted to find out if the schools are violating rules, if they are transporting children beyond the permitted numbers and to make sure that the drivers follow traffic regulations.
Eight children had died when a vehicle carrying school children to Don Bosco School had met with accident at Trasi two years ago. Though the incident alerted the authorities and schools, the vehicles continued to transport more children after a few months.
The people had complained that children beyond limits were being transported in rickshaws. There were allegations that school vehicles do not follow rules. Therefore, police have conducted surprise checks of school buses and suggested for stern actions against violations.
ASI Sudha Prabhu, staff Sachin, Anand and others took part in the inspections.
