Rs.5 lakh financial assistance for former archer


New Delhi, Jul 24 (IANS): The Union Sports Ministry on Tuesday sanctioned financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to former archer Ashok Soren, who is currently living in an indigent condition in Jamshedpur.

Media reports had emerged that the 28-year-old was working as a labourer under the government's rural employment guarantee scheme.

Soren won two gold medals at the 2008 South Asian Games.

The financial assistance has been given from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons.
