Udupi, Jul 26: The fact that former chief minister of Karnataka and state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, had performed oblations at the base Anegundi Math at Padu Kuthyaru near Kaup, has become public knowledge with some delay. During the religious rituals performed by Yeddyurappa, he is said to have secretly performed Shatha Chandika Yaaga and Athirudra Mahayaaga at the said Math.
Yeddyurappa arrived at Anegundi Math at Kuthyaru without fanfare, took part in both the Yaagas and took part in the 'Poornahuti' of both the oblations. He was accompanied by sons, Vijayendra and Raghavendra along with close family members.
Spiritual head of Anegundi Math, Sri Kalahastendra Swamiji, also took part in the 'Poornahuti' ritual of these oblations. These Yaagas were performed for five days with the participation of Vedic scholars from Puttur and Sullia. The team of scholars was led by Jyotishya Vidwan Umesh Acharya Padil, it is gathered.
Although some sources said that Yeddyurappa chose to perform these rituals for the general welfare and advancement of his family, there is possibility of him seeking to appease the gods through these Yaagas with an eye on wresting back the seat of the state's chief minister.
The fact that the programme was kept a closely guarded secret, and Yeddyurappa secretly visited the site of the Yaaga have provided fodder to speculations. The details of the oblations got wide publicity through social websites and other media on Wednesday July 25.
