Heavy rains continue in Himachal


Shimla, Jul 27 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh on Friday continued to experience heavy rains with Gohar in Mandi district recording the highest rainfall at 207 mm, an official said.

Many roads in interiors of Sirmaur district were closed to traffic after torrential rains and landslides.

"Monsoon was aggressive across the state during the last 24 hours. Precipitation occurred at most places with very heavy rainfall in Solan, Bilaspur and Mandi districts," a Met official told IANS.

He said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at some places in the state till Sunday.

Solan town got 100 mm of rain, while Sundernagar in Mandi district received 64.7 mm, Kufri 52 and Una 37.4 mm.

State capital Shimla got just 47.7 mm rain.

There were reports of link road closure in interiors of Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi and Kullu districts, hampering movement of traffic. Roads in Sirmaur district were affected more.

A government spokesperson said the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna rivers and their tributaries are in spate in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts.
