Karwar, Jul 28: Senior advocate and social activist Ajit Nayak, was brutally murdered while returning home from his office near J N Road, around 9.30 pm on Friday, July 27.
Nayak, who was the president of Dandeli Taluk Horata Samithi, was profusely bleeding after being attacked with lethal weapons by unidentified people, was rushed to a nearby hospital.
However, he had succumbed to his injuries by then and the doctors declared that the 58-year-old was brought dead.
Nayak, who was also the CMC president, was an active campaigner of the Kali Bachao Andolan.
Having worked as president of Dandeli block Congress Committee in the past, Nayak was considered to be very close to S Bangarappa and Margaret Alva.
Nayak is survived by wife and two sons. Dandeli police have registered a case and lunched a probe.
Deputy superintendent of police, Mohan Prasad, police circle inspector, Aneesh Mujawar, sub-inspector, Ullas Parmar etc visited the spot and guided investigation.
The Dandeli Town police have registered a case and are trying to track the culprits. They are yet to determine the reason for murder.
Meanwhile, the murder drew backlash with members of Sirsi and Karwar Bar Associations boycotting court proceedings on Saturday.
