Navjot Singh Sidhu accepts invite to Imran Khan's swearing-in, calls him 'man of character'

New Delhi, Aug 2(PTI): Indian politician and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday accepted the invitation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) to the country's prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan's swearing-in ceremony.

Praising Khan, Sidhu said, "Men of genius are admired, men of power are feared but men of character are trusted. Khan Sahab is a man of character. He can be trusted."

Out of all the people in India given invitation from Khan's party, Sidhu is the first to accept, according to India Today.

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry told media outside Pakistan's Supreme Court that former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Navjot Singh Sidhu, along with Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, had also been invited for the swearing-in ceremony.

According to the DawnNewsTv, sources said that the PTI leaders also wished to invite the leaders of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states - including Narendra Modi and leaders of China and Turkey.

"The PTI leaders also asked the Foreign Office for suggestions on the issue. Members of the Foreign Office (FO) maintained that calling foreign leaders to the oath taking ceremony is a sensitive matter and all perspectives need to be taken into consideration," sources told Press Trust of India.

"Initial arguments from the FO suggested that the office believes Pakistan would face a bigger embarrassment if the Indian PM declined the invitation," the channel said.

Chaudhry said the party was awaiting a response from the foreign office.

Don't know why people have animosity towards Imran Khan. He is a Pakistani politician and it is part of any politician there to make anti India speeches to make an impact. The same applies to politicians in India. Can any politician make pro Pakistani speeches and expect to survive politically here in India? Forget politicians, we here in India brand any citizen as anti national today, if he or she is critical of our government and leaders.
Anyone who has bothered to read about or followed Imran Khan's life will agree that he has faced struggles throughout his life, first as a cricketer, then as a social worker and now as a politician. At each stage he never gave up and succeeded. He came into politics two decades ago, suffered electoral losses, was beaten up, ridiculed, humiliated, but never once gave up. One should stand up and applaud him, not because he is the Prime Minister of Pakistan, but simply as a human being. His life is a lesson for any person who faces adversities in life.

His personal life is his business. The people of Pakistan have accepted him and his mistakes and elected him as their leader. Who are we to question them. For the moment just appreciate and applaud his successes, as that of a man who overcame every adversity and triumphed.

Ivar, when and where did Imran say that he would give Modi like governance? Just wishful thinking? But Imran did say "Nawaz Shareef talks Modi's language to protect his ill-gotten wealth" This was reported in media on May 13th 2018.

Lionel, why not? it could be beginning of new era! Give an attempt and be positive and always we can act accordingly as per their response! Hope Imran will be sportive and positive and try to be a good neighbor which may solve terrorism problem mainly! India is strong enough to deal if they continue to be bad as in the past!
He should be told politely to forget Kashmir issue and let them focus on their part land!

Whole of Pakistan wan't Imran khan to invite Modi, the reciprocal courtesy what Modi has shown.
If you can access any pakistani tv online, please do watch the peak time shows. Yesterday, almost all channels were discussing the plus points of inviting Modi and negative points of not inviting.
Their another worry is that what if Modi declines the invitation!!

Yes you are right,we too have lot of expectation from new Pak PM.
But we also had lot of expectation from Namo also.

Real matter is they should put behind some bad influential people from the society who obstructs both sides till their term ends or they should be sent to some island.

And then we will see Both countries beating China. But this is like day dreaming we need some real bahubalis to take such courageous step.

Real Indians and real pakis will be waiting for it.
