NZ PM returns to work after maternity leave

Wellingon, Aug 2 (IANS): New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern returned to work on Thursday following six weeks of maternity leave.

Ardern, 38, resumed her duties but will work from her home in Auckland until Saturday, when she is expected to return to her official residence here along with her partner Clarke Gayford and daughter Neve, who was born on June 21, reports Efe news.

During her absence, the government was led by Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters.

Ardern, who announced her pregnancy in January, is only the second world leader to give birth while in office after Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto, who had her daughter in 1990.
