Gurugram, Aug 3 (IANS): The police on Thursday arrested three persons, including a barber, for forcibly trimming beard of a Muslim man, describing him a 'Pakistani.'
The three were identified as Gaurav alias Tedha (a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshehr district), Nitin (Rohtak, Haryana) and Iklas from Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh).
Police said the three were arrested under various IPC sections dealing with outraging religious feelings, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
The accused were on Thursday produced before a district court and sent in judicial custody.
The victim, identified as Jaffrudin, along with others had met Gurugram Commissioner of Police KK Rao and alleged that the victim's beard was forcibly cut because he "looked like a Pakistani."
"We have arrested the three on the charges of hurting religious feelings," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Sumit Kuhar.
