Mangaluru, Aug 6: The 200th episode of ‘Moinyali Manchi’, organized by leading Konkani cultural organization Mandd Sobhann was held at Kalaangann, Shakthinagar on Sunday, August 5.
The event titled 'Aput' meaning pure, enthralled the music lovers with singing from various singers and musicians led by Eric Ozario, Gurkar Mandd Sobhann.
Addressing the gathering, Michael Lobo, deputy speaker, government of Goa, who attended as chief guest said, “After watching the musical presentation by musicians and singers, I feel, Kalaangann is the real treasure of Konkani music and art. Few days ago, Eric Ozario came to me with the invite. Before I reached here, I did not expect to experience a magical world of music. This musical programme was on par with artistes of international fame. I enjoyed it a lot. I am inviting the same team to Goa. If Eric’s team comes to Goa, it will help our youth to know about the originality of Konkani music. It can help us to divert our youth to Konkani music from the western and modern form of music,”
“The mission of Mandd Sobhann which provides a platform to upcoming talents is appreciable. It is not an easy job. But Eric and his team are doing this without any expectations. I salute this dedication and love towards Konkani,” he added.
On the occasion, Michael Lobo unveiled the picture of late Lawrence Pinto, a social worker popularly known as Lawry, and also released the souvenir book written by Vithori Karkal which contains details the history of ‘Moinyali Manchi’.
Louis J Pinto, Eric Ozario, Roy Castelino, Loy Noronha and Leena Pinto, wife of Lawrence Pinto were present on the dais.
As many as 16 lively compositions of Eric Ozario written by Chafra, Melvyn Rodrigues, Shridhar Kamath, Fred Kumar, Uday Mbembre, Aruna V Kamath, Lloyd Rego, Yusuf Sheikh, and Jossy Pinto were presented during the event.
Along with Eric Ozario, Konkani’s well-known singers Joyce Ozario, Prakash D’Souza, Zeena Pereira Shilpa Cutinha, Prajoth D’Sa, Robin Sequeira, Adolf Jayathilake and Jacqueline Fernandes entertained the audience with their melodious numbers. Konkani’s upcoming singers Nihal Tauro, Sonal, Jason Lobo, Dealle, Gia and Aman also gave a musical treat to the gathering. The songs sung by Annada Prasanna, Alwyn Fernandes and Cajetan Dias also got a huge applause from the crowd.
Annada Prasanna (Flute), Manoj (Violin), Cajetan Dais (Keyboard), Alwyn Fernandes (Guitar), Rajesh Ullal (Tabla), Jerome Coelho (Bass) and Sachin (Percussions) entertained the audience with their mesmerizing performances.
Titus Noronha compered the event while Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the stage programme.
The monthly diverse cultural programme ‘Moinyali Manchi’ by Mandd Sobhann was started with the motto of providing platform to encourage Konkani art and artistes. The first monthly theatre was held on January 6, 2002 and ever since, programmes have been held every month for sixteen years and eight months without break.
The 200th episode of monthly theatre was a great celebration for the organization and artistes alike. It is also a history in Konkani.
