Guatemala volcano erupts again

Guatemala City, Aug 6 (IANS): Guatemala's Fuego volcano, which caused havoc in June, has erupted again.

Authorities on Sunday evening ordered the evacuation of emergency personnel who have been working in the area since it last erupted, reports Xinhua news agency.

Residents have been warned to keep away from rivers that might overflow and to be on alert for further instructions from authorities.

In addition, according to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck 74 km south of Puerto San Jose in Guatemala on Saturday.

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) of Guatemala described the previous eruption as "the strongest one recorded in recent years", killing around 300 people and displacing thousands.
