Why does PM Modi refuse to wear Muslim caps, questions Shashi Tharoor

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 6 (Zee News): Congress leader Shashi Tharoor launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning him why does he refuse to wear Muslim skull caps. "PM Modi wears everything but a Muslim skull cap," Tharoor said.

He further asked why does the Prime Minister refuse to wear the colour green.

Tharoor's statement came while he was addressing a seminar with the theme 'Standing up to hatred; Violence and intolerance in contemporary India' in Thiruvananthapuram.

Coming down heavily on the BJP led government at the Centre, the Congress veteran claimed that communal violence and killing in the name of cow vigilantism had increased in the last four years.

He alleged that as per Home Ministry statistics 2,920 incidents of communal violence had occurred in the country in the last four years, leaving 389 people dead and scores injured.

Tharoor said that such incidents had increased as Modi had not come out openly and condemned the killings.

The seminar was organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies, run by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.

Addressing the seminar, social activist Swami Agnivesh, who was allegedly thrashed by BJP youth wing workers in Jharkhand, hit out at PM Modi claiming that he along with party chief Amit Shah had captured BJP and the RSS.

"In a way everything, he (Modi) is like a dictator like Adolf Hitler... Hitler also came to power through democracy and not by an army coup," Agnivesh said.

It's not right on the part of Shashi Tharoor to demand that PM Modi should wear Muslim cap.
If he wish, he will wear, otherwise no! Why should Shashi Tharoor demand? Nonsense!
Why should politicians bring religious customs issues? These are personal issues!
But should treat all civilians alike, there shouldn't be any discrimination.

Surprised to see a highly educated man like Tharoor make such a comment which helps BJP. If BJP returns to power in 2019, it will be because of social media. The more negative comments on Modi, it's beneficial for BJP as they spread fast on Whatsapp, FB and Twitter in local languages. The rise of smart phones is phenomenal.

Shashi, perhaps what's more important now is you might want to tell the FBI how your wife Sunanada died, and what was your involvement in her death ? Very, very important question.

At least you don't worry about Modi and his cap, right now it seems you are putting a cap and blind folds on the nation. Why does it matter to you, if Modi wears a cap he is doomed, if he does not wear a cap he is doomed again?

If he wears a Muslim cap, it would be a gimmick to please the Muslim community. If he does not wear, we have people to question him why. Like everyone, Modi too is ‘apni marzi ka malik’, who are we to question? Sachi prem dikhao, roop badal kar nahin.

New big saffron problem of India!! even in coastal area saffron attired goons are major threat to peaceful society, they behave as if they are above law and supreme...in reality most of them are school drop outs and jobless and not willing to work for earning a living! If Modi or local BJP leaders warn them to behave...it will be better. It is not happening because may be they are part of it!! Wearing saffron and doing pseudo cow vigilantism is a career for many these days!! New found profession in last few years.

    Mr Tharror
If you like it you wear Muslim cap.
Don't impose your ideas on others.
If you want wear a Sari you can do so no one will object.
Modi does not want to please Muslims by wearing a cap.

ST has scored a good point. It is good politics to wear the religious symbol (a round cap, like Muslims or a skull cap like the jews) at special functions to which the political leaders are invited as chief guests (such as the PM or a President); not at all events. The PM. like any other Indian leader, should be wearing the customary hat - the Gandhi cap - to show pride in their country. An exception, of course, in the case of leaders of religion whichever the faith might be.
