UP cop showers roses on kanwariyas from chopper, social media goes red

Meerut, Aug 9 (DC): A video that has gone viral on social media shows Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police (Meerut Zone) Prashant Kumar accompanied by Commissioner Chandra Prakash Tripathi making use of their aerial survey by showering rose petals from a chopper over kanwar pilgrims on Wednesday.

The video was first posted by Prashant Kumar on his Twitter but he removed the video after facing backlash.

"No religious angle should be given to this, flowers are used to welcome people. Administration respects all religions and actively takes part, even in Gurupurab, Eid, Bakrid or Jain festivals," Prashant Kumar said defending his "flower welcome".

While unimpressed social media users called the act "waste of public money", the Uttar Pradesh police termed it as "soft" PR.

In Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, the UP ADG was sitting inside the helicopter for the surveillance of the deployment of troops there on kanwariya yatris.

The officers were conducting an aerial survey on security and traffic measures for the annual pilgrimage, during which thousands of kanwar pilgrims walk from their states to Uttarakhand, to fetch holy Ganga water.

The video has sparked controversy and was shared by many on Twitter as many accused the policemen of deviating from their duty.

This is classic case of India facing its own Frankenstein monster where the person or people who created it can no longer control it? The Frankenstein has now attacked it’s creator, the majoritarian masses of India. The occupants could be anyone including the family of a Supreme Court judge or a parliamentary leader.

This rioting took place barely five kilometres from the Supreme Court, the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parliament. For the onlookers, it was a selfie or videographing moment. The attackers were willing to be filmed because they felt it was an act of bravery and righteousness.

“That law will catch up with them” was their last fear. Police came and could not even arrest a single attacker who were on foot on a designated route towards their holy kanwar pilgrimage. It speaks volumes about the rule of law in India. The police that visited the spot is the best equipped and trained police force of India, the Delhi Police.
In this case though, the mob attacked without verifying or ascertaining the religious or caste identity of the car occupants. The car belonged to one person whose surname was no Khan or Hussain, but Bharadwaj. The girl is even said to be the daughter of a Police Officer. As the irony would have it, the same day a police officer’s daughter was nearly lynched by kanwariyas, IPS and IAS officers were seen dropping rose petals from helicopter on them elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh. The same day a police officer in Uttar Pradesh was being thrashed by another group of kanwariyas.

It is shame for India government servant who is uniform using government chopper showering this riot mob with flower petals. This mob violence in nation capital in the presence of Delhi Police in daylight is the proof that India is in the hand lawless.

This is clearly an erosion of basic human values. We Indians need this officer suspended from the service for life time.

How many are you going to suspend or dismiss, The rot is too deep.

It is not a question of trying to pick up rotten apples from a basket of apples, the challenge today is to pick good apples from a complete batch of rotten ones.

From the very top to the bottom everything is contaminated including ethics, values, morals, decency, honesty, compassion, justice and everything that is good and close to ones heart. Ask any bhakt and he will say that everything is fine.

Shailu, you certainly have same mentality of the leader who garlanded the killer of innocent Pehlu Khan. You have every quality and qualification to be a blind bhakt and RSS/BJP pet. It is a surprise how you are in Kolkata instead of in U.P. or Bihar.
