Mangaluru: KSRTC bus hits stationary private bus – 15 persons injured

Mangaluru, Aug 11: A KSRTC bus hit a stationary private bus at Kolya Adka near here on Saturday, August 11 and nearly 15 persons were injured.

As per details available, the KSRTC bus hit the private bus which had stopped at Kolya Adka and as a result, as many as 15 persons sustained injuries.

Al the injured persons have been taken to hospitals.



Police have arrived at the spot and are investigating the case.

    KSRTC buses have speed governors and they do not speed over 65 km.hr. Here the fault looks like faulty parking by the private bus. Unless police and traffic personals take strict action against offenders accients will only increase. Not even a day pass of without an aacident in our area? Where are we heading to?

    These kind of accidents are a regular occurrence in Mangalore. Despite all the rules and regulations regarding speed limits and regular parking areas for these buses, the drivers seem not to pay any attentions to the regulations.

    It is time that Speed governors are fitted on these vehicles. It is also time that that fines are increased for defaulting drivers.

    To all those who blamed the bus driver for overspeeding
    in the similar accident that occurred last week... Take a look at this accident. The bus involved is a KSRTC bus whose speed is limited to 60-65kmph. He was obviously not overspeeding yet he met with same tragedy.
    The reason for both these accidents is clear. Whenever a vehicle (truck/bus/car) is parked wrongly on the highway, it is surely bound to get collided on it rear end by another truck or bus because the width of these vehicles creates a blind spot for these drivers. Even the most experienced drivers fall prey to this trap.
    Just like negligent driving, parking/stopping on the highway should be heavily fined like in most other countries unless they provide signs: reflector boards, tree branches, etc at a suitable distance before the parked location.
