Udupi, Aug 12: District working journalists’ association in association with Udupi press club and district district police organized an awareness programme on drug addiction for a drug free district on Saturday, August 11.
Speaking on the occasion Udupi deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said, “Students between 18 to 35 years often fall victim to drug addiction. If the concerned persons do not take appropriate action, young people will suffer. This is a loss to our country. Recently ‘Kiki challenge’ and ‘Blue whale challenge’ affected youth. Students fall victim to drug abuse these days. We need to help them.”
SP Laxman B Nimbargi in his presidential remark said, "India has the power of youth. Udupi is an economically vibrant district, where students from across the world come to study. The poorest of poor and the richest people suffer from addiction. The poor do not know what they are doing and the wealthy people easily get money for drugs. To counter drug menace, rehabilitation centres should be opened and shop owners selling drugs must be punished.”
PV Bhandari, who was the resource person, gave an example of a wealthy family which is suffering from drug addiction.
DySP Kumarswamy, Udupi press club president Ganesh Prasad Paandelu and others were present.
