Rupee hits record low, mild RBI intervention seen

Mumbai, Aug 13 (DC): The rupee on Monday touched an all-time low of 69.62 per dollar in early trade, tracking broader weakness in other emerging market currencies on concerns of a spill-over from a crisis-hit Turkey.

The Reserve Bank of India was seen intervening to stem a sharp fall in the rupee, two dealers said.

“The RBI was there to curtail the volatility in early trade, but not in a big way,” said a senior dealer at a foreign bank.

The rupee reversed marginally from its record lows to trade at 69.53 to the dollar. It had ended at 68.84 to the dollar on Friday. The 10-year benchmark bond yield rose to 7.80 per cent from its previous close of 7.75 per cent, tracking the weakness in rupee.

Investors preferred safe-havens such as the US dollar and the yen after a plunge in the Turkish Lira sent all emerging market currencies sharply lower.

The lira has fallen about 45 per cent against the greenback this year on worries over Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s increasing control of the economy and a deepening diplomatic rift with the United States.

“There is no point spending a lot of dollars in defending a rupee when the force of the fall is so strong across emerging markets,” said a senior forex dealer at an Indian state-run bank.

The next crucial level for the rupee is 69.80 to the dollar, he added.

Traders will also watch out for India consumer inflation data for July due after market hours for further direction. A Reuters poll estimates July inflation of 4.51 per cent compared with a five-month high of 5.0 per cent hit in the previous month.

India is crumbling economically, socially and culturally under Modi led BJP rule.

The gifts from Modi are too many, no jobs for youths, Price rise for house-wives, substandard texts rolled into educations, boarders are in-secure with Chinese aggression and Pakistan's terrorism, corruption is getting more deep rooted and insulated, institutions that safeguard Indian ethos and democracy are invaded with termites, that have loyalty to enriching themselves, with illegitimate gains.

Bhakts will give 100 different logical explanations for each, because they are trained to do so. But, the same guys criticized everyone in the past, for the same reason.

DK being one of the most educated region, since voted for BJP recently, there is no chance that India can regain the glory what it deserves. Yea, over the marketing ad's, Mangalore can beat even Singapore.

Have you seen Adani building roads in Udipi and surrounding areas and also donations to temples, churches, schools etc etc as part of CSR activities of its power plant.

The Adani Power is making losses , State Bank of India which funded this company is making losses. So the public money in banks is going for CSR activities . Ultimately we are funding our roads from our own bank money and the banks are duping us. Same thing with ICICI bank thought to be a great private sector bank , but the Chairman had to be removed for poor governance. LIC was the other one which was collecting money from customers .Now the government attached the loss making IDBI Bank to it so that the money collected by LIC can be routed to loss making companies and dupe the public. What a full circle Ha !.

This is because of strong Dollar
Weak rupee is good for exporters as it will increase their profits and gives better competitive leverage amongst other country Exporters

You have mentioned all the lame excuses for the weak rupee and the truth is our exports have plummeted and imports have skyrocketed after 2014. Instead of justifying the prevailing gross mismanagement by a bunch of morons, just answer why your hero Subbu Swamy claimed rupee would be 45 a dollar if BJP came to power? His speeches in Goa and IIM Bangalore are available in YouTube.

Modi himself in his 2014 Jumla, was repeatedly accusing congress about weak rupee which was at 67.9 with crude oil prices 115$ a barrel where majority of our forex being spent.

If an ordinary (less literate) Modi Bhakth does a comment like this, we would have agreed, that his IQ level is low. But being an educated (as per your qualification you are doctor) Bhakth, such stupid comments will not suit you. Oh, yes, now I realized. Bhakths whether they are illiterate or highly educated, finally they are blind bhakths. They don't try to understand the negative impacts because of their BJP Governments useless schemes tried to implement by their brainless Ministers, which are hampering Indian economy, development, etc. for the past 4 years.
We are sure, by the time Feku and his fake gang completes their term in 2019, Rupee will reach 100 against 1 dollar. Congratulations in advance to all Feku Bhakths.
We want this feku government to win the election in 2019 again and ruin the country fully by looting everyone. Then let us see what would be the reaction from such bhakths. May be still they will say Feku has done great job. Height of blind bhakthism or shall we say mandha Buddhi.

Hello Kamath, Once again i reiterate , whats your level of education. you are comparing India to failed economies like pakistan & Bangladesh. Pity your thinking. Go right ahead , compare our rupee to Zimbabwean dollar. this will give you a new high. You can pat yourself that India is heading in the right direction. It will give you a sense of False pride and while you are at it, please feel elated that we are doing better than Afghanistan & iraq as well . Actually, fekus undoing was that he has surrounded himself with duffers like Jhootley, who is permanently sick , patel, another misfit , nirmala sitharam, smrithi and the list is endless.
