Mangaluru, Aug 13: St Joseph Engineering College won best project award at 41st Karnataka State Council of Science and Technology (KSCST) - Bengaluru project exhibition held at Bapuji institute of engineering and technology in Davanagere on August 10 and 11.
Continuing its tradition of securing sponsorship and excelling in the project exhibition organized by KSCST – Bengaluru, students of St Joseph Engineering College – Mangaluru won two best project awards at this year’s exhibition.
For the academic year 2017-2018, a total of 10 students’ projects from SJEC secured KSCST Sponsorship. Out of these, 6 projects were shortlisted for exhibition in the KSCSCT 41st series of students projects programme exhibition held at Bapuji institute of engineering and technology – Davanagere. More than 150 engineering colleges across the state participated in this exhibition and seminar with more than 600 projects showcased by the Students.
Out of these, St Joseph Engineering College won two best project awards for the following projects:
Automated Union over Touch Enabled System (AUTES)
David John Saldanha and team members Adlen D’Souza, Ashwini V Kottary, and Madhushree T Chavan, carried out this project, under the guidance of professor Gandhimathinathan from the department of electronics and communication engineering. It combines smart table with smart automation to deliver an augmented user experience.
Virtual mirror – A hassle free approach to the use of trial rooms
Ranjith Kumar B and team members carried out this project, under the guidance of Professor Nisha Roche from the department of computer science and engineering. This project resulted in a product that enables customers to view themselves in a virtual mirror with dresses of their choice. Customers select dresses through the touch screen, view upon themselves in the mirror, and proceed for purchase or add to wish list.
KSCST - Bengaluru had earlier awarded St Joseph engineering college - Mangaluru with the best performing college in the state (projects) for the academic year 2016 - 2017. Solar grass cutter by Prajwal Sadananda Shetty and team, gyro controlled motorised tricycle for physically disabled by Vishal Bhandary and team, betel nut sorter by Tejas and team, adsorbent based refrigeration system using solar energy, hovering multipurpose agro carrier, design and development of humanoid arm, and a low cost POCT model for ECG monitoring, are the other projects funded by KSCST.
Principal Dr Rio D’souza said, "We have got wonderful news that two of our projects was at the top. Last year we also got top college award because of our project. I congratulate everyone for this achievement.”
Director SJEC Fr Wilfred Prakash D’souza said, "This achievement should be encouragement and inspiration for other students. I appreciate the hard work put up by project coordinators, students and guides.”
