Kundapur: Youth assaulted on suspicion of illegal transportation of beef

Kundapur, Aug 22: A group of young men here waylaid and assaulted a young man and damaged his scooter suspecting that he was transporting beef. The incident took place near Veerashiva temple, Gangolli on Wednesday afternoon, August 22.

The man injured in the assault has been identified as Abu Sufiyan (19), a resident of Shahimohalla. He was accompanied on the bike by another youth Nuhail.

Sufiyan is an engineering student in Mangaluru. He had come home for Bakrid festival. He had been to his relatives’ house and was returning with Nuhail in his scooter near Veerashiva temple when a group of nine men waylaid them. The group said that they know that there was beef under the scooter’s seat and asked Sufiyan to open the scooter seat. Despite opening the seat and showing the group that there was no meat, Sufiyan was assaulted by the group and in addition, damaged his scooter.

Sufiyan was admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur.

A case has been registered at Gangolli police station.
