Udupi: Two young men die due to electrocution at Kukkude Island

Udupi, Aug 23: Two young men, who had gone for fishing with hook at Kukkude Island, Paduthonse, died on the spot due to electrocution on Wednesday, August 23.

Rakesh (22) and Keerthan (21) are the deceased.

Rakesh is a resident of the island while Keerthan was his friend. They used to go there to pluck coconuts and catch pigeons in the trees. They went on Wednesday also for the same.



When one of them accidentally stepped on a live electric cable that had snapped and fallen on the ground, the other went to rescue him. Both of them died of electric shock.

Rakesh was breadwinner for his family. Keerthan was a final year B Com student and had taken part as a leader in donation collection for Kodagu flood victims.

A police complaint is registered in Malpe police station.

    Its sad that despite these recurring accidents, we have no time to put pressure on the authorities concerned to bring out immediate solution. Here we must raise voice and bring some change. We support all kind of unwanted morchas, without knowing pros and cons but when we lost two young lives, why no action from any??

    kids have to be thought special lesson during school days on how to stay away from such dangerous incidents and how to be reactive upon coming accross such incedent. By doing that we can minimize the tragic.
    Questioning mescom or govt of the day is another story where as it’s thier duty make atmosphere safe and sound.

    Arent these high tension cables supposed to trip fuse on contact of earth or while breaking ? Can some expert enlighten us ? It is unbelievable that we are so backward in technology and so many have to die by electrocution.

    How many more people have to die before the government takes some concrete action?

    India can afford to spend thousands of crores on statues of Patel, Shivaji and others but cannot think of underground cabling project.

    If cables are laid underground the dept. can also save crores of rupees for replacement of thousands of electric poles all over the state every rainy season. Has no one ever thought about this? We are busy running after cows, lynching human beings, making cattle protection groups and checking who is eating what?

    In today's politically and religiously hypnotized India rational thinkers are branded as anti establishment because they try to give a picture of reality to public. The establishment doesn't want people to get that picture...they want them to constantly fight for smaller issues...

    There are no circuit breakers, and Government has to make arrangement to plastic quoted electric wires specially villages..... as the wire pass in the forests, trees etc.

    Negligent and lethargic PSU departments , they will wake up after the tragedies occur . Till then they are in slumber. Loss is for the families and public. No one reins them. Life lost never can be recovered, families have to bear the pain and loss of their dear ones. These departments are are trying to make profits at the cost of safety , security and service.
