Kozhikode: Kerala BJP says UAE did not announce financial aid of Rs 700 crore

Kozhikode, Aug 24 (IANS): The Kerala unit of the BJP on Friday said that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) did not announce financial aid of $100 million (approximately Rs 700 crore) for the flood-ravaged state.

It demanded that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reveal the source who told him about the assistance.

Addressing the media here, state BJP chief P.S. Sreedharan Pillai said: "We want Vijayan to explain about this news and from where he received it. After the Centre expressed reservations in accepting the aid, a vicious smear campaign was unleashed against the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

Earlier this week at a press meet in the state capital, Vijayan spoke about the aid from the UAE, saying that the news was conveyed to him by Middle East business honcho, M A Yusuf Ali.

Pillai said that no central government, save Modi's, has extended so much help to a state.

"He came and assessed the flood situation. Despite bad weather, he got in a helicopter and surveyed the destruction. Such is his commitment," he added.

Modi politics has done this trick. He spoke to the UAE leaders on phone and got the result he wanted.
PM never wanted to help Kerala due to many petty reasons ,he never declared the Kerala floods as a national disaster, see the amount of hatred he has towards the state. Very cheap politics on part of BJP Government.

I was surprised to read reports of such an aid of Rs. 700 crores, but then I thought this is just an assistance to be settled later. I am sure authorities in the U.A.E will be able to clear the air soon. Anything is possible in social media era with so many Keralites working in that region, who still think they don't need anybody's help. The State may, on the other hand, take few years to come back to normalcy. Few who have sources of income or deposits may build their houses etc but what about people with hand to mouth situation. They obviously need help from others.

Even UAE ambassador to India has told they have not announced any amount and they have requested there people to help. Even if they provide, it is an aid and govt has to repay back. The number 700 itself makes to think as it is done to humiliate Modi govt when they have announced 600 cr . Slaves think everything is free as they get from govt and any clarification doesn't matter when they are interested in making politics rather than real help.

Central government decision should be lauded. We are a huge country with huge amount of money available here itself. Put IT raids on individuals who has illegal amount of 1000's crores with them. If you put raid even on one or two corrupt individuals also you can get 700 crores within seconds. That much corrupt people we have in this country.
Don't beg for foreign aid, if you take aid we have to listen to them for everything.... If anything goes wrong with our workforce who are working there, we will not be able lodge a strong protest against them.
So we have plenty of resources, no need of foreign aid at any cost.

Our central modi government given 500 cr aid to kerala, whereas UAE offered Rs 700 cr aid for relief which is much more than central govt aid. So it is a insult for the central govt to digest.
Accepting or rejecting aid for political gain is generally all political party's does. If they want to reject this aid given for the relief of flood victims in kerala, they must stop accepting donation from foreign county's as party fund that too without tax. What a vise gobetnment we have in India who does not have any problem to accept potitical donation from foreign country and have a problem to accept flood relief fund from foeign counties.

Whether UAE government announced or not known to the person who received the information. But now UAE government must not pay a single paise as Indian governments played so much politics on this aid stating that even Rs 700 crores of aid from foreign countries is not acceptable, and we can handle our problem ourselves without anyone's aid. Its a big insult who offered aid and now these countries must not offer any aid to India.

Shan, I think Indian Government stand on non-acceptance of any foreiegn country aid is right approach because firstly our country is quite capable to handle any of our internal issues, secondly by accepting any foreien aid we will be forced to support or bow to such countries wrong doings on diplomatic grounds. I remember during Sunami, our previous government did refuse foriegn aid for this main reason. So we as proud Indian should support our government's stand on foriegn policy.

There was tsunami in South India and we collected articles, cloths etc from our community. These cloths were donated by leading businessmen. Most of the cloths were branded unused cloths. We packed and sent one container and the people who got these materials they did not use it and they thrown on the roads stating that it was used cloths. This time also Ministers, Government was announcing to donate only money not used materials and I did not participated for the voluntary work because of my bad experience last time. Someone needy approached me for help and I paid about Rs 5000/- and he commented negative on my help and I thought it is better not to help the people who got pride. Just pay to the people who are in Need but whatever they accept from you and use it.
