Mangaluru: Vishwa Konkani Kendra distributes Rs 3.5 crore scholarships

Mangaluru Aug 24: Vishwa Konkani Kendra distributed scholarships worth Rs 3.5 crore to students from Konkani community in a ceremony held at TV Raman Pai Convention Centre here on Friday, August 24.

Chairman of economic development corporation Goa, Siddharth Kunkolienkar, speaking on the occasion, said, "Distributing scholarship to the needy is a noble cause and we should highly appreciate it. This function is for the future of students. We should believe in three things, firstly working hard for our success as there is no substitute for difficulties, secondly, using intelligence, as we have to think and apply it very diligently and thirdly, the integrity, which is very important in life,”





"There are lot of challenges in the society that you have to face. Once you achieve your goals, you should remember to give back what you have received today,” he added.

MLA of Mangaluru South, Vedavyas, Kamath said, "Vishwas Konkani Kendra is doing a great job and i congratulate them for taking up this initiative of distributing scholarships. They have the special social concern to help the needy. Konkani Kendra has been actively involved in several activities, scholarship being one among them. I wish all the best to the students for their future endeavours,"

Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Michael D Souza said, "This is a great work. Education is very important as it is the key for success which can change one’s life,”

This year too Vishwa Konkani Kendra Scholarship Fund has supported the professional education quest of 584 engineering and 47 MBBS students. The fund also has a study abroad scholarship for higher education abroad with scholarship amount Rs 1 lac each. Since 2010, the fund has awarded 70 scholarships under this programme and 35 scholarships were awarded this year under this category.

Chairman of Manipal Global Education T V Mohandas Pai, president World Konkani Kendra Basti Vaman Shenoy, chairman VKSSF Ramadas Kamath, secretary Vishwa Konkani student scholarships fund Pradeep G Pai, president alumni association Nirosh Kumari, President WKC Venkatesh N Baliga and others were present.
