Udupi: Milagres College Kallianpur conducts interactive session on 'HIV patient and society'

Udupi, Aug 24: Department of English, Milagres College, Kallianpur on August 23 organized an interactive session on 'HIV Patient and Society'.

Shanthi Noronha, the project coordinator at Deepa Jyothi Foundation, here was the resource person. She spoke on the causes, symptoms and preventive measures of AIDS and discussed at length the consequences of the disease on the individual, family and society at large.

She advised the students to evolve a humanistic approach in dealing with HIV positive people. The ‘Positives’ are in need of love and care and they must not be treated as untouchables. The stigma attached to ‘Positive People’ must be systematically solved by the citizens of the country. General awareness about the disease is more important among the youth, she emphasised. While sharing her experience as an HIV patient she answered the queries of the students.

The principal Dr Vincent Alva presided over the function. Chandrika, Sushma Dias, from the department of English were present on the occasion. The programme was compered by Reeshal of 1 BCom. Sunny Antony of I Bcom welcomed the gathering. Sania of I BCom delivered the vote of thanks.
