Bengaluru: State govt waives all kinds of loans including from private lenders

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 25: The state government has issued orders waiving non-performing assets of farmers, overdue, and re-phased loans of farmers in nationalized banks up to a sum of two lac rupees. It had earlier waived loans raised by farmers in cooperative banks up to one lac rupees.

This new gesture of the state is expected to cost Rs 32,000 crore to the exchequer additionally.

The state cabinet has decided to bring out an ordinance to provide relief from burden of debt to small farmers, agricultural labourers and economically weaker sections. Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, said that the cabinet has decided to promulgate Karnataka Debt Relief Ordinance 2018 to provide relief to people from private money lenders. In this case, in line with the decision then taken by the government held by D Devaraj Urs in the past, the above classes will be relieved of all the loans and liabilities availed from private money lenders and get back movable assets if any pledged to them. The government also need not pay anything to these private moneylenders, it is gathered.

For taking ahead the loan waiver scheme which will be carried out over several years, a nodal committee having two IAS officers would be formed by the government. The chief minister said that this committee will be in contact with banks and ensure that the benefits of loan waiver scheme directly reach the farmers.

Under the debt relief scheme, landless agricultural labourers, and weaker sections with an income up to Rs 1.20 lac per year will be rid of loans raised from private money lenders. The ordinance will have provision for imprisonment for private moneylenders if they try to forcibly recover the loans.

Loan waiver is not the permanent solution for farmer's problems. Government should think about farmers welfare by providing subsidized equipments, seeds, free crop insurance, free medical insurance for family and minimum price for their crops. special preference for their complaints and queries related to their land, crops, family welfare and government schemes to be provided by government backed agency in each village as most of them are not well educated. I think the waived loan amount is more than sufficient for the above and it will be a permanent solution and farmers will not be in need of any loans.

Bakhts who were taunting HDK initially about his promise of loan waiver must now apologise!. HDK is a mature person who carefully planned everything and did in phases unlike the rash decisions of demonitization and GST implementation which not only caused extreme hardships to people including deaths and also brought down the economy!. Now what Yeddy will do!?. What are the new issues he wants to give a bandh call!?

Who do you think is going to pay that 34,000 crores. can someone give a thought as to why year on year this waiver is provided?
can some sense prevail as to why when a crop insurance that is available it is not availed ?
its not about keeping promises its about the fake bills run up to manage this loan disbursement.
for a person who is not a farmer where is the loan waiver ? forget about loan waiver we will now have to pay much higher taxes.
there are many organizations and FPS's that work for the farmers benefit after all that again 34,000 crore loss?
i work with farmers , so its time you think about waivers and who benefits

I am against any sort of loan waivers! What I have written about is stripping the people open who are doing this for political mileage!. Modiji opposes loan waivers but he doesnt tell Yeddy not to do so!. They want to come to power by hook or crook!. Karnataka state finances will be in doldrums!. You will see more potholes on roads, Power failures will increase, water supply will be hit and many more!!!
