Bengaluru, Aug 27: Deputy chief minister Dr G Parameshwara underscored the need to provide training to all the district advocates by senior advocates to equip them with technical know-hows in order to skillfully handle and dispose cases filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Dr Parameshwara, who is also in charge of Home and Bengaluru Development portfolios, was speaking at a meeting with special public prosecutors who handle POCSO cases in districts, held at the conference hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Monday, August 27.

District advocates are stumbling in solving matters under POCSO Act and hence, it would be only appropriate to train them in the presence of senior advocates and judges, he said.

The POCSO Act has been implemented to control the atrocities against children. But the fear in accused has reduced as these cases being registered under POCSO have remained pending, he noted.

There is a surge in these cases and urgent measures are needed to clear the huge pendency of cases and their effective disposal, he said.

“What are the reasons for the delay in these cases? Is there a delay in collecting evidence? If so, bring it to my notice,” the minister instructed.

No case must be kept pending due to minor reasons. In case of lack of police cooperation, it must be brought to the DGP’s notice, he suggested.

Dr Parameshwara instructed the prosecutors to review the pending cases within 15 days and take up rest of the cases.

DGP Neelamani Raju, additional chief secretary Rajneesh Goel and others were present at the function.
