Hassan, Aug 28: State PWD minister H D Revanna noted that on account of excessive floods and landslides, large scale damage has been inflicted on roads and bridges in seven districts in the state. He also estimated that in view of extensive damage suffered, a sum of about Rs 2,000 crore would be required to repair and reconstruct damaged roads and bridges.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday August 27, Revanna said that in Kodagu district alone, the funds required for bridges and roads would be Rs 450 crore.
"For Hassan district, amount required for this purpose is Rs 300 crore. Repair of Bisile Ghat road which connects Subramanya and Somwarpet alone will need Rs 200 crore. Roads and bridges in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts too have suffered unprecedented damages," he explained.
Revanna said that people of south Karnataka districts have been suffering from excessive rainfall and floods.
At the same time, the minister informed that a package of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned to build bridges in places of 900 foot bridges in Malnad areas which pose danger to users.
