Kuwait: New Telephone Numbering Plan Introduced

Daijiworld Media Network - Kuwait

Kuwait, Oct 21: Starting from October 17, 2008 a new digit is added to all landline and mobile numbers, as per the Ministry of Communications new numbering plan. As the availability of numbers in Kuwait has nearly been exhausted under the current plan, a new numbering scheme is introduced to accommodate both the entrance of new operators into the market and the introduction of new services in Kuwait.

The changes will be as follows:
• Number 1 will be added before all commercial 6 digits numbers e.g. 800000, 899999, etc.
• Number 2 will be added before all landline numbers
• Number 6 will be added before all Wataniya Telecom numbers
• Number 9 will be added before all Zain numbers
• Emergency services will still be accessed through 777.  All the three digit lines will remain the same without any additional number e.g. 121, 107, 113, 777, etc.
