Lamu (Kenya), Aug 29 (IANS): At least five Kenyan soldiers were killed and 10 seriously injured in a blast in Kenya's Lamu region early on Wednesday, officials said.
Kenya Defence Force (KDF) spokesman Paul Njuguna confirmed the incident which took place at around 8 a.m.
The incident took place after the soldiers, who were on a humanitarian civil assignment to fetch and distribute water to the residents, hit an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in the Lamu area, Xinhua quoted Njuguna as saying.
