Beltangady, Aug 30: Founder president of Rashtriya Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV), Mahesh Shetty Thimmarodi, alleged that at the protest meeting held by Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS - Ambedkar) here, slogans using derogatory words which were damaging in nature for Hinduism and hurting Hindu sentiments were raised, and saffron cloth was burnt. He demanded for registering case against the organization and to arrest the accused.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday August 29, Mahesh pointed out that law is the same for everyone and people are justified to hold protest against people who have insulted Ambedkar. "If they try to insult Hinduism, the organization is prepared to retaliate," he said.
A memorandum urging the local station house officer to take suitable steps against those who insulted Hinduism was handed over to him. Memorandum was also sent to the governor and deputy commissioner through the local tahasildar.
HJV honorary president, Ravikumar Baramelu, taluk president, Anil Kumar, Manoj Kunjarpa and other were present.
DSS denies allegation
However, leaders of DSS leaders said that Bhagwa Dhwaj was not burnt at the protest held by their organization and that some organizations have been spreading false information about burning of Bhagwa Dhwaj at their protest.
Speaking at a press meet held here on Wednesday, district convener of the organization, B K Vasanth, pointed out that no one had done anything when the constitution of the country was burnt down and accused some leaders of registering case just because a piece of cloth was burnt.
DSS Mysuru division leader, Chandy L, said that his organization members burnt down the work, 'Manu Smriti' during the protest. He said that DSS activists are being threatened over phone, and that the activists do not be bogged down by threats. Local convener of DSS, B K Vasanth, stated that when they tried to burn down ‘Manu Smriti', it did not catch fire. Therefore, he said that a shawl belonging to an activist was used to burn it and not because its colour was saffron. He said that a conspiracy to register case against Dalits is being hatched.
Leaders, Shekhar Kukkedi, Venkanna Koyyur, Shekhar L, Nemiraj Killur, and Nagaraj were present at the press meet.
