Davanagere, Aug 30: It is said that the statue of Mother Mary at the shrine of Our Lady of Health Church in Harihar near here was shedding tears. Devotees in large numbers across the district made their way to witness this unbelievable happening.

As per the reports, the peon of Maria Nivas School inside the compound of this church was the first one to notice this unusual sight. He had been to the church at 11.30 am on Tuesday as usual, to pray in front of the statue of Mother Mary. He brought this to the notice of Fr Antony Peter, rector of the church.

When the priest and others went near the statue and saw, tears from the left eye of the idol were trickling down like water. When this was wiped by a cloth, the water started to trickle again after some time.

Speaking to the media, Fr Antony Peter said, "This has happened for the first time in this church. The peon of our school, who went to pray near the statue, was the first one to see this miracle. Then when I went near the statue, I too observed that the water is trickling from the eyes of the statue and looked like the statue is oozing tears from its eyes. Immediately I offered prayers to Mother Mary and wiped off the tears from the statue. However, after some time the tears started to roll again from the left eye. However, now the happening has stopped,"

"Mother Mary is showing her concern for the natural disaster that has taken place recently and expresses her motherly love for the people. The mother has selected a few places around the world to show her kind and loving heart. Harihar is also one of them. In addition, this is a message for the mankind to give up evil and practice a good way of life. Love your neighbours as well as the society," said Fr Antony explaining the meaning to this rare incident.

Scores of people, who were surprised by this sudden and rare happening, thronged the church and lighted candles and offered prayers.
