Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts all set for local body elections

Bantwal, Aug 30: The district administration is making preparations for the local body elections due to be held on August 31. Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Thursday, August 30, visited the Bantwal tax department to inspect the mustering process.

“In the wake of the upcoming elections, all the necessary arrangements have been done. To organise a peaceful poll, additional police forces have been deployed. They have confirmed there are no tensions up till now,” he said.

Later, the polling booth officials, staff and police proceeded to the polling booths along with the polling equipment.

Preparations in Udupi

As part of the polls, the de-mustering process was held at Dr TMA Pai English Medium High School, Kunjibettu, Udupi, on Thursday, August 30.

The officials gathered at the centre and collected all materials before heading to their respective polling booths. CCTV cameras have been installed at the centre.

The de-mustering centre has tight security arrangements. Police personnel such as DSP-1, CSP-1, CPI-1, ASI-11, Head constables (including PC) - 150, home guards 65, KSRP-2 have been deployed to take care of security.

There are 98 polling stations in 35 wards under Udupi city municipality council, with 97,561 voters. There are 47,538 men, 50,022 women and one from other category.

There are 23 polling stations in 23 wards in Kundapur municipality. Of the 23,302 voters registered, 11,292 are men and 12,010 are women.

In the 23 wards of Karkala municipality, there are 23 polling stations. There are 9,879 men and 10,725 women and a total of 20,604 voters.

In the 16 wards of the Saligrama Town Panchayat, there are 16 polling stations. There are 6,213 men and 6,748 women and a total of 12,961 voters registered.

The Election commission has deployed all 48 reserve staff. It has appointed 161- PROs, 161-APROs, 483-POs, D Group employees. It has appointed 966 officers and staff. The district administration announced government holiday for all government staff, schools and colleges on account of election.
