Dubai, Oct 24: Following the vandalism by miscreants on the Sunday morning of 14th September of the monastery of Perpetual Adoration at Milagres, Hampankatta, Mangalore and the desecration of the Blessed sacrament kept at the chapel and subsequent to the attacks at various church and other places of worship, Catholics & Christians of the region unified and stood against the government who were in the favor of the miscreants.
Worldwide protests were organized against the injustice done to the Catholic /Christian community of Mangalore and surrounding areas.
In order to express solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters back home and other parts of Karnataka and Orissa, under the leadership of Vincent Pereira & Lawrence D’Almeida, SMKC Dubai had conducted the “VOICE of SMKC Dubai - a signature campaign on 25 September 2008 after the monthly Konkani mass at 8 PM. All the members of SMKC Dubai were in the church compound and thousands of signatures were compiled to be attached along with the memorandum.
St. Mary’s Konkan Community (SMKC) Dubai has now submitted the memorandum in writing along with the signature petition to the Consul General, Indian Consulate, Dubai, on Wednesday, 22 October to express their solidarity with the community people and religious orders back home who suffered in silence.
A copy of this memorandum will also be handed over the Governor of Karnataka State. As photographs while submitting were not welcome by the Indian Consulate Dubai, a scanned copy of the memorandum submitted to His Excellency, Venu Rajamony, Consular General of Dubai is displayed herewith. However, he has promised to forward to the concerned authorities and reach out our voice for justice and peace in the region.
May our global voices and cries for justice and peace for the Christian community living in India be heard. May Justice and Peace always prevail in our homeland.
