Mangaluru: Robbing of handbag with ornaments – two held, items recovered

Mangaluru, Sep 6: Relating to an incident, in which a handbag containing gold ornaments was robbed, Suratkal station police have arrested two persons from near Thokkottu Kallapu and recovered the items stolen by them.

The arrested persons are Muhammed Salman (26) from Kudroli here, and Muhammed Hussain Tanveer (28) from B C Road, Kaikamba.

In addition to gold ornaments weighing 336.34 grams worth Rs 8.5 lac, a two-wheeler valued at Rs 50,000 and a car valued at Rs 2.5 lac were seized from the possession of the accused. The total value of assets recovered in this case has been put at Rs 11.5 lac.

A woman from near Bajpe had visited her relatives at Chokkabettu Suratkal on August 26. On her way home, she had visited Mallamar Beach at Mukka near Suratkal. At that time, she had removed ornaments she was wearing and kept them in a handbag. Salman and Tanveer, who observed what the woman did, suddenly came from her behind, snatched away her handbag, and ran away. A case about this incident was filed in Suratkal police station.

Assistant police commissioner (north division), Rajendra D S, had guided this operation in which Suratkal police inspector, Ramakrishna K G and other personnel were involved.
