Bengaluru: First anniversary of Gauri Lankesh death marked by protest

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 6: To mark the first anniversary of veteran journalist, Gauri Lankesh's death, Gauri Memorial Trust and Gauri Lankesh Balaga had organized protest on Wednesday September 5, culminating a week of protests, in the city.

Leaders who took part in the protest said that M M Kalburgi, Dabholkar and several other progressive thinkers were also assassinated in similar fashion. They called upon the concerned to bring logical end to all these cases at the earliest.

Gujarat MLA, Jignesh Mevani, addressing the protesters, said that the voices of people who fight for the rights of Dalits and tribals are being silenced with impunity. He accused the forces of branding social activists and progressive thinkers as urban naxals.

Swami Agnivesh accused the central government of indulging in protecting only the interests of big industrialists. He said that the government is indulging in misleading the people by doling out false promises.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on August 10 claimed to have foiled a terrorist attempt to strike in different parts of the state following the arrest of three persons and seizure of at least 20 crude bombs and explosives and material used in bomb-making.

Hindu Janjagran Samiti activist Vaibhav Raut was the first to be arrested is an active Gau-Rakshak (Cow protector) of the Hindu Govansh Raksha Samiti from his home in Nala Sopara, Palghar district, Maharashtra.
The development comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mumbai, Independence Day celebrations on August 15 and Bakri Eid. The sources said that the accused planned to carry out terror hits in Mumbai, Pune, Solapur and Satara districts in the coming few days.
We have been seen activities of Sanatan Sanstha and HJS, which are active in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka but nothing has been done so far.
Mukta Dabholkar, daughter of slain Maharashtra rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, claimed that the killings of her father, Govind Pansare, MM Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh had a common link and that they all were killed due to ideological differences.
If the murderer of her father had been arrested earlier, precious lives of Pansare, Kalburagi and Lankesh could have been saved.
Five years is a big period, the murderers are going scot-free. It increases their will to do much more things, if they roam around freely in the society. Justice and investigation in a short period of time are essential.
    1. How many more heads does Karnataka Home Ministry requires to arrest all the accused and its organisational activity?
    2. Why the Karnataka is not coordinating with Maharashtra ATS and ask Center Home ministry to ban Sanathan Sanstha and HJS?
    3. If the law can be applied on Muslim evangelist for his organisation, why the same law is having compulsion for terrorists?

Congratulations to the Karnataka SIT for cracking this case and also of the earlier unsolved cases. The entire conspiracy needed to be unearthed and justice meted to all the families who have lost their near and dear ones to such serious cases of silencing the very essence of Democracy.
