Mangaluru: 91-year-old retired teacher from Koppal appears for PhD exam

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Sep 6: Basavaraja Bisarahalli, a 91-years-old retired teacher hailing from Bisarahalli, Koppal has proved that there is no age limit for learning. Basavaraja, who had retired after serving as a teacher in a school in Mangaluru, had an ambition within him to secure a PhD degree. Therefore, he has set aside his age and appeared for examination at Ballari, Hampi University, on September 3.

He started his teaching profession at Kavaloor school and went on to teach in several schools in the state. He taught in a school in Mangaluru in 1992 and retired there. But his desire to secure PhD was always troubling him. Therefore, his efforts towards it were relentless.

He was a freedom fighter and there were several impediments on his way to PhD. He had secured MA from Karnataka University in the past, but did not get 55% marks required for PhD. Therefore, he faced the examination at Hampi University again and received 66% marks. Finally, he wrote the PhD examination in Vachana Sahitya research division.

Basavaraja Bisarahalli has four sons and a daughter. He has also authored five books.

Respected Mr. Basavaraja Bisarahalli is a Freedom fighter, a lifelong teacher and his age does not deter him from his goal.

For these qualities alone, he should be awarded a Honorary Doctorate which will bring some real dignity to the tradition of awarding these otherwise not-so-honorary doctorates.

He is a worthy candidate compared to the "filum" stars or corrupt politicians or those moneybags who buy their "honorary" doctorates.

My sincere respects to this Gentleman.

Jossey Saldanha, Mumbai — politicians will never learn anything that is good or doesnt result in increasing their ill-gotten wealth! Just see how Rs 3,118 crore was deposited in 11 Gujarat banks linked to Amit Shah, BJP after DeMo — thanks to NaMo, the country will soon be NoMo(re)!

Just look up Wikipedia to dispel your ignorance. Rahul obtained his BA from Rollins college, Fla, USA in 1994 followed by M Phil from Cambridge. If you have any evidence against this, please update Wikipedia.

@Simply tell truth, karkala, instead of admiring you are trying to even degrade the one who has his Degree, long back.Probably you too are one failed in ...telling the truth? You are making yourself ignorant in media before whole world.I find the senior master has thurst to learn more and one should salute him. Here too some senior citizens go to University to get a degree and many of them have succeeded.Respect I say instead of sitting idle and gossip,do good toyourself, and that is good for health of body and mind.
