Modi appeals for contribution towards cleaning Ganga

New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday described river Ganga as our "culture, heritage and identity" and urged people to contribute towards cleaning it.

"I want to thank the people of Bijnore for working towards cleaning the Ganga," Modi said while interacting with the people of the Uttar Pradesh district during the launch of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva Movement' (cleanliness is true service) as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, through the NaMo app.

"And banks of river Ganga becoming open defecation free shall be an important stage towards maintaining the purity of the river," Modi said.

"Devotion towards the Ganga and Gangotri should not only be shown but steps should be taken and for that. We also need to ensure that mentality to harm Ganga should also be removed from the mindsets of people," Modi said.

Appealing to the people residing near the banks of the river, Modi asked: "Will you all participate in the cleanliness mission to Ganga clean? I know that like people of Bijnor many others would join the cleanliness movement.

Modi also said that his government was taking a lot of steps to clean Ganga and soon its results would be visible to everyone.

Modi also interacted with the railway personnel in Haryana's Rewari and said that the Indian Railways has done commendable work in furthering cleanliness.

"In every train coach, it is written that Indian Railways is public property. It is written to give a sense to people to adopt it as their own and keep it clean."

Hailing the railway personnel for keeping the coaches and stations clean, Modi said: "Today the kind of cleanliness seen in Indian Railways is due to the hard work of the railway personnels."

Administrative delays, poor contract management and lack of monitoring have led to cost escalation of more than Rs 49,800 crore in five national projects undertaken by the central government under river development and Ganga rejuvenation.
A comptroller and auditor general (CAG) report, tabled in Parliament only 1% Of Holy Ganga Cleaned In 4 Years, Now Rs 50,000 Crore More Required For The Project.
While announcing the Union Budget for 2018-19, finance minister Arun Jaitley included Namami Gange in his speech as one of the areas where the Modi government has performed.
Only Rs 3,072.92 crore of the Rs 20,000 crore budget has been released in three years by the Modi government to clean the Ganga. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had in February 2017 rapped the government, saying “not a single drop of Ganga has been cleaned so far”.

Arun Jaitley claims in Budget that Ganga cleanup has picked up speed. It hasn’t. The BJP's PM Modi government now appealing for contribution for cleaning of Holy Ganga is spending millions to find an ancient mythical river Sarswarthi that probably never existed. In July 2015, Rajasthan sought Rs70 crore from the central government to conduct studies and trace the route of the Saraswati river.

If Rashtriya Swaamseveak Sangh political wing BJP can amass million 'Kar sevak' for demolishing Babri Masjid, why can't they do the same for cleaning Ganga if they worship and save billions?

Ganga is the most pious river in India and lifeline of crores of people living on banks.
Ganga is like Cauvery and Thungabhadra & Netravathi to us in K'Nataka.
The river is extremely polluted and it is a good development now taken to cleanse this river.

First, stop spoiling Ganga & other rivers in the name of rituals. The river is more polluted now than it was in May 2014, when the Modi government took charge. “Earlier, a CAG report has revealed that during 2016-17, the level of pollutants in the river across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal was six to 334 times higher than the prescribed levels,” -sources. Govt completing its tenure soon, They just let Ganga die Cleaning project was just an another JUMLA for bhakts.

If the Gujju-bhai has, with a mere swing of his tiny magic wand, got toilets built in 90% of the villages...

...all he has to do is swing the tiny magic wand again, and the water of river Ganga will turn crystal clear.

There is no need to appeal for any contribution from people.

People have lost jobs in big numbers due to messing up of the economy. They have no money to spare for Ganga.

Before asking the contribution first tell what happened to that PM Jivan Bhima Yojna where the rs.365 deducting from our saving account past 4 years. Where the money deposited.
Now use the same tricks PM Ganga Yojna and deduct from the public savings account.

When it comes to parting with moolah, bhakths too are pretty tightfisted. Remember Modi's much hyped gold scheme of 2015 with a target to collect 20k tons of gold from public, but only a paltry 400 grams could be collected! This the evidence of credibility that our PM has! Had the hardcore bhakths parted with a gram or two of gold, it would've been few tons!

Last election he promised "Clean Ganga", "Swachh Bharath". bla bla bla

As election is approaching, and having not fulfilled any of his last election promise(s) including 15 lakhs promise, same guy is going to public with begging bowl to fulfill his fake promises once again.

    Shameless people!!!

Before collecting money in the name of false schemes he should teach the people of his constituency Banaras, not to throw garbage, sewage, industrial waste into Ganga first!!

What joke is this ? What happened to crores of Rupees kept aside from the budget for Clean Ganga project ? What happened to Minister Uma Bharathi who was appointed for this purpose ?

Well, if at all anybody needs to be appealed, its teh people who believe in Ganga herself. Please do not throw half-burnt dead bodies of your relatives in the river, do not bathe/wash clothes in her and defecate along her shores, Ganga will be clean automatically.

Narendra Modi you are asking people to contribute for cleaning Ganga, I don't think they would have dirty it if they new that will ask money to clean it seems you are out of your mind. Modi you never asked people to contribute for farmers who are killing themselves coz they cannot pay their debt while they are working hard to feed us, you did not asked people to help Kerala coz they are facing its biggest calamity.
