'T20' and corporate-style targets: How BJP is preparing for 2019 Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi, Sep 17(PTI): The BJP is set to play T20 to prepare for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. A senior leader has been quoted as saying the party would use an intensified voter engagement strategy to push for the re-election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP's T20 strategy however will not feature either PM Modi or party chief Amit Shah padding up. Instead, it refers to a drive to get each BJP worker to visit at least 20 houses in their area and talk up the Modi government over tea.

Revealing their strategy to news agency PTI's Bhasha Indian language service, senior leaders have been quoted as saying the party workers have been asked to impress on voters in their areas "how important it is for them to keep the BJP government in power".

The details of the door-to-door voter engagement plan also have some marks of a corporate-style approach to the task of canvassing. For instance, BJP workers now seem set to receive targets to get the NaMo app installed on the phones of at least 20 people in their areas, with booth-level teams given targets in the triple digits.

An updated version of the app would contain a section that would set out assignment for party workers and provide them with advisories on how to engage with voters along with campaign aid like information in texts, video clips and graphics, BJP leaders told PTI Bhasha.

The BJP's election machinery delivered 282 seats to the party with just 31.34 percent of the votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. It has since also delivered unprecedented victories to the BJP in state assembly elections since.

The BJP has also gotten into election mode even as opposition parties continue to struggle to find the common ground to come together to challenge the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

If any party want to resort to "Corporate Style Targets" - they should also produce corporate results (report card) of their achievements (not just targeting people and taking us for a ride).

Where are the results? In corporate style if an employee does not perform he is "Sacked" and only top performers are retained.

Has any party given the people of the country a proper report card of their achievements? e.g.: the budget is presented but do they show the expense statement? how is the amount spent? Who benefits from the tax payers (our) money? We do have RTI but do we get proper information?

As a Tax Payer, when we pay the salaries of our so-called "Netas", isn't it our right to replace the non-performers with employees who perform? (It goes across all party lines).

We give "Perks" like free accommodation (bungalows), fuel, telephone facilities, travel benefits, subsidized canteen services at the parliament, etc. to our elected representatives to enable them perform better and not indulge in corrupt activities. What do we get in return?

Let us wake up and hire productive candidates if we need to see our corporate company "India/Bharath" live up to our expectations.

We need to elect educated personnel, candidates who have the willingness to work for the development of society as a whole, perform as per their qualifications and prove their achievements.

This should not only be the mantra for 2019 elections but the norm for all future elections (Lok Sabha, Assembly, Corporation or Panchayat level) and generations to come.

    Think wisely and act accordingly...

    Thank you.

Signs of desperation that the Mann Ki Baat is not working, Demonitisation has not worked, GST has not worked, Gujarat Model of Devlopment has not worked, Corruption has increased, Black Money Abroad is increasing, Lokpal is not appointed. Jhumla Politics has failed.

Modi and the BJP have frittered away a Golden Oppurtunity given to them. People will opt for Coalition despite the inconvenience but which will help keep checks and Balances in the Govt in Power.
