Bantwal: Demolition of grotto at Kulal, police take two into custody

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (RJP)

Bantwal, Sep 29: Police on Friday, September 28, took two persons into custody in connection with the demolition of Mother Mary grotto and installation of some idols and buntings at that place.

The incident had taken place at Kulal near Kolnadu in Bantwal taluk on the night of Thursday, September 27. The grotto belongs to Vijayadka Church.

Superintendent of police Ravikanthe Gowda, who visited the place, said that stern action will be taken against the culprits. Bantwal circle inspector T D Nagaraj also visited the place with other police personnel.

Bantwal tahasildar Purander said that the place is in government land and hence government has taken the possession of land and no activities will be allowed there till decision is taken.

David D’Souza and Charlie Veigas have lodged a police complaint regarding the case.

The grotto was constructed in 1970 as per the decision of Vijayadka parish council. After that people were seen visiting the place for prayers for all these years.

A person has also filed complaint saying that the grotto was built on a disputed land. Church management said they had taken permission to build the grotto from the owner who owned the kumki land.

Political leaders including MLC Ivan D’Souza have condemned the demolition of grotto.

Police, who acted swiftly as soon as they came to know about the incident, controlled the situation and maintained law and order.

Grotto was constructed in 1970 ,There was no problem in last 48 years . If there was problem with the grotto there are legal ways to to remove it. Those Saffron Terrorists should be brought down and to be demolished first because these dirty minds are demolishing our peaceful society.
The culprits should be caught and put to the work of demolishing all illegal prayer places constructed alongside of many roads, let them do it and show their love to the nation by helping Modi's "swatch bharat abhiyan"

Thousands of Gudi and Katte are erected on public land and nobody disturb them because people respect the relegious sentiments of people. The Grotto was there since 1970 and inside the church property. All of a sudden they find out that it is government and land then install the idols and buntings.

Maybe Anti BJP persons must have done this to defame BJP image because they are desperate of BJP to lose the 2019 election. Hindu organization will not do such acts like a thief in the night. They are Dilwale. This must have been done by anti-social elements who want to disturb the religious harmony of Mangaluru. This act is to pre-planned to create a communal tension in Mangaluru.

Six members of a right-wing Hindu group have been arrested in India's southern Karnataka state for raising Pakistan's national flag on a government building.(BBC News)

In the Catholic system, taking into possession something not owned by one, is considered a sin.

Merely a claim that the land belonged to the Government does not make it a lesser sin. The parish priest needed to demonstrate wisdom on the matter before moving ahead and building a religious structure there.

I hope the new bishop sends a notice to all the parishes in the diocese to relinquish all land that does not fall under:
    (a) full ownership
    (b) obtained in lease

Unless such matters are paid due attention, any 'harmony' exercises are rather futile.

Dear Krishna and Truth teller (God knows ?)
You are absolutely right ? Where I am justifying the act here ?
Tell me in recent past, how many of your shrines were demolished without giving any notice by the Govt , police and the court ? Can you tell me any one incident ?
You could have applied the same formula here also right ? Has anyone stopped you ? But you opted violence and now using the media to justify your violence.

You are conveniently responding & and defending the culprits by bringing the law of land. Then why the law of land does not apply to them ? How they put the buntings now in the Govt. land ?
I do not have the words to express your wisdom & intellectual level.

    Mr. Krishna Bhatta,
You should ask the tahsildar why all these years land was allotted to a particular community if it is Govt. property. The church says it was taken with owner's permission more than 40 years ago when there was no value for land in villages. We are not interested in encroaching govt. land and also not looking for any favours through appeasement policy.

Unwanted small small temples..churches..mosques..darghas which occupied in illegal land and disrupt in city development should be pulled down immediately. It's nothing but money-making business. Keep only reputed famous religious places around..according to percentage of population. Other's just convert into small hospitals/schools for benefit of people. Keeping as much relugious places people not become saint. Good things come from inside by oneself.
