J&K: Police files FIR after Indian flag displayed upside down in BJP rally

Jammu, Sep 29(PTI): The national flag was allegedly displayed upside down during a rally led by senior BJP leader Rajiv Jasrotia in Kathua district, following which an FIR was lodged for insulting the tricolour, police said on Saturday.

The FIR was registered Friday against unknown persons in Kathua Police Station under Section 2 (insulting the national flag or the Constitution) of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, a police official told PTI.

A local resident, Vinod Nijhawan, in a complaint alleged the national flag was disrespected during the rally led by Jasrotia, who is a former minister, and BJP candidate Rahul Dev Sharma on Thursday, the official said.

Jasrotia, who is the BJP MLA from Kathua constituency, had accompanied Sharma in a procession from his Shiv Nagar residence to file nomination papers for ward number 19 on Thursday for the Urban Local Body polls.

The complainant presented a video clip purportedly showing a person, just behind the BJP legislator, holding the tricolor upside down during the procession which covered a distance of over two km, the official said.

In his complaint, Nijhawan said the act was "very heinous" and hurt the "sentiments of the patriotic citizens of India".

The official said an investigation was underway in the matter.

RSS and BJP continues to defy India’s Flag code even 70 years after Independence.

Kerala is where RSS, despite its best efforts, is falling short of its own expectations. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had hoisted the National Flag on August 15,2017 at a government-aided school in Palakkad. This was in spite of an order issued late on August 14, by Palakkad District Collector P Marykutty to V Sreekumar, headmaster of the Karnakiamman Higher Secondary School, Palakkad, stating that according to the law, only office heads or elected people’s representatives should hoist the flag on the occasion of Independence Day in government and government-aided schools.

For 52 years after the independence, the RSS did not have a tricolour at their headquarters in Nagpur. They used to salute the saffron flag, not the national flag.

The RSS English mouthpiece ORGANIZER demeaning the choice of the National Flag just on the eve of Independence (14 August 1947) HEDGEWAR HATED THE TRICOLOUR wrote: “The people who have come to power by the kick of fate may give in our hands the Tricolour but it never be respected and owned by Hindus. The word three is in itself an evil, and a flag having three colours will certainly produce a very bad psychological effect and is injurious to a country.”

In 2015 memento signed by PM Modi presented to President Obama have the Ashok Chakra and 'white' colour band on it". BJP Chief Amit Shah in 2018 drops National Flag on I-day at party headquarter.

For BJP and RSS they can only force other to chant 'Bharat Mata ki jai'. When the party can't handle tricolour, how will they handle the nation'?
