Bengaluru, Oct 3: The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has awarded the contract for the construction of Terminal 2 of the Kempegowda International Airport to the Building and Factories Business of Larsen & Toubro at a cost of Rs 3,035.9 crore.

Upon completion, the 255,000 sq mts of Phase 1 of Terminal 2 will augment the capacity of the Airport by 25 million passengers per annum (MPPA).

The phase 1 of Terminal 2 is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2021.

The scope of work includes design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of Terminal 2, including the integration of services and utilities with existing services and utilities along with the Airport’s systems, support facilities and buildings.

L&T Construction is also currently constructing the New South Parallel Runway (NSPR), apron and other auxiliary buildings at the Kempegowda Airport.

The award of this contract is the outcome of a highly competitive global e-tendering process that lasted several months.

BIAL has worked with L&T Construction in the past and we believe that they have both the ability as well as the expertise to deliver a project as complex as Terminal 2.

Once ready, passengers can expect the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru to continue to deliver a world class, seamless and delightful experience, replete with cutting-edge technology,” said Hari Marar, Managing Director & CEO, Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).

“This repeat win is the reflection of the confidence our client reposes with us to deliver another airport project to international class and quality,” said S N Subrahmanyan, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Larsen & Toubro.

“Our association with BIAL has been long and mutually extremely beneficial and we are confident of delivering this demanding mandate to the complete satisfaction of our customer,” he said.

The design for Terminal 2 was articulated by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), USA – among the largest architecture and urban planning firms in the world.

The Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru is India’s first Greenfield airport to be built as a public-private partnership. It is operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), where private promoters hold 74 percent (Fairfax: 54 percent and Siemens Projects Ventures: 20 percent) stake in BIAL, while the Government holds the remaining 26 percent (Karnataka State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited: 13 percent, Airports Authority of India: 13 percent).

The Airport began operations in May 2008 and has significantly enhanced the regional and worldwide air connectivity of Bengaluru and Karnataka.

It is currently the busiest airport in South India and the third largest in the Country – having served 26.91 million passengers in FY 2017-18. It is ranked the world’s second fastest growing airport by RoutesOnline.

Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru has been adjudged the ‘Best Regional Airport in India & Central Asia’ by Skytrax in 2018.

Will any support Mumbai and prefer Mumbai Airport over bengaluru...because there is at least little money coming from Mumbai to Mangalore and vice versa. But to Bengaluru all money going from Mangalore and no money to Mangalore..only neglections.

For long distance connectivity, I will prefer using Mumbai Airport than Bangalore Airport as Karnataka Govt. cares about development of their state capital airport only.

There is only one city in the whole state of karnataka I.e Bangalore. All the development takes place in this city. We Mangaloreans are the highest tax payer in the state but unfortunately our airport is not at all to the international standards. Where as Kannur airport will be the best in India. Please politicians work for the development of Mangalore.

So why not give the highways construction work and flyover construction work to L&T as well.

Quality of their work is awesome. But unfortunately they don't get too many contracts because they don't bribe.

All one has to do is check the speed and quality of work of L&T against the others. One will know.

Present M'lore Int'l Airport is much developed and advanced than it was 10 years ago. About 15 years ago the airport at Bajpe used close at night after the last flight in the evening. Now it's open 24 hours like any other airport.

Modi Government is restless by seeing Congress work in developing the Airport.
He will try to twist and take credit for it.
Modi is good in doing all that, if he uses his brain it becomes a big flop.
All Modi's schemes are flops Money down the drain.
