Bengaluru, Oct 4: The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), the affiliating authority for all medical, dental and Ayush colleges in Karnataka, has declared writing God’s name and religious symbols on answer sheets will constitute malpractice.
The ban on writing God’s name and ‘mantras’ came after University encountered certain cases where certain words like ‘Om’ or names of gods were written in pre-assigned spots to help the evaluator identify the student whose answer script he or she is evaluating.
M K Ramesh, Registrar (Evaluation) of RGUHS told media that some students wrote religious slogans or symbols on different pages of the booklet, to signal the evaluator.
Besides the ban on religious words, the university has issued a circular which prohibits students from writing the register number, their name, the letters ‘P.T.O.’ at the end of the pages, other irrelevant messages, any word, number, or sentence that is extraneous to the answers, answers that are out of context to the question asked, and tampering with the booklets.
“Do not write any sign/symbol, letter, word which are likely to be construed as revealing the identity of the answer script,” the circular issued by the varsity on Monday stated.
The registrar added that if evaluator comes across answer scripts which violate rules, it will be sent to Malpractice Committee, to decide whether the student has to pay a penalty or be disqualified.
Meanwhile, the Professional Misconduct Committee will oversee the functioning of evaluators.
