Mangaluru Oct 5: The police phone-in programme on Friday, October 5, was dominated with complaints of bus conductors not issuing tickets to the passengers.

After the phone-in programme, police commissioner T R Suresh along with DCP crime and traffic Uma Prashanth felicitated Vijay Kanchan for securing second place in 105 kg weight class at the Asian bench press championship held in UAE from September 18 to 24.

Vijay Kanchan is presently serving at Anti Rowdy Squad Mangaluru North and head constable at Moodabidiri police station.

A caller from Pumpwell complained about heavy vehicles plying with no cleaner which also creates trouble for other vehicles as these vehicles move without giving any signals. DCP Uma Prashanth replied that for a short movement the cleaner may not accompany the driver. “However, we will have a check on these heavy vehicles,” he added.

A caller from Jeppu complained about lorries carrying fish, spilling fish stored water on to the roads which causes stink in the surrounding areas.

A caller from Valencia requested installation of sign boards and cameras at Valencia circle, as vehicles do not follow any kind of traffic rules.

A caller from Marnamikatte complained that lot of youth gather in a shop near Marnamikatte circle and smoke which create inconvenience to the public.

A caller from Kankanady complained that conductors of buses plying to Akashabhavana do not issue tickets to the passengers. Police commissioner T R Suresh said, "We will take necessary action against those who are not issuing bus tickets.”

A caller from Kudroli complained that it is very difficult for the pedestrians to cross the road near Kudroli temple. The caller added that several vehicles are parked on either sides of the road, creating traffic congestion and a problem for pedestrians. Police commissioner T R Suresh said, "We will make sure that a zebra cross is painted, which will help pedestrians.”

A caller from Kottara complained that conductors of buses plying to Surathkal are not issuing tickets and when questioned, show an arrogant attitude towards public. A caller from Shibaroor had a similar grievance and was upset with the bus conductors for not issuing tickets between Mangaluru to Shibaroor.

A caller from Yedapadav complained that there are no enough buses to Yedapadav via Kinnigoli. He pointed out that it causes inconvenience to students, who spend hours just waiting for buses. Police commissioner T R Suresh said," If there is need of buses in these areas, we will discuss with KSRTC officials on introducing more buses on this route.”

A caller from Kavoor complained that two buses parked on the road between Kavoor to Kulur creates trouble for the pedestrians as well as obstructs vehicular movement. Many buses are not being stopped in the bus bay, he added.

A caller from Mannagudda complained that goods vehicles carrying scrap and other materials move uncovered due to which the dust particles fall on the vehicle that are moving behind these vehicles.

A caller from Kulshekar complained that conductors of buses plying to Kulshekar do not issue tickets and also foot board of the buses is high which create problems to the elderly to board the buses. As many as 29 calls were received during this phone-in programme.

Callers can call on 0824 – 2220801 and 0824 – 2220830 and can directly express their grievances to the Police Commissioner. Police phone-in programme will be held every Friday from 10am to 11am.

DCP Crime and Traffic Uma Prashanth, Bunder traffic inspector Amanullah, Kadri traffic inspector Shivaprakash and others were present.
