Fuel prices regain upward trend after a relief of Rs 2.50 from centre

Mumbai, Oct 7 (DC): Petrol and diesel prices on Sunday witnessed a fresh hike. Fuel prices are revised by oil marketing companies on daily basis. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday assured the markets that the government would not go back to regulating fuel prices.

Petrol is now retailed at Rs 81.82 per litre in Delhi, Rs 87.29 per litre in Mumbai, Rs 83.66 in Kolkata and Rs 85.04 in Chennai. The rate of petrol has been hiked by Rs 0.14 in the four metros.

Diesel is retailed at Rs 73.53 per litre in Delhi, Rs 75.38 per litre in Kolkata, Rs 77.06 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 77.73 in Chennai. The rate of diesel has been hiked by Rs 0.29 in Delhi and Kolkata, and by Rs 0.31 in Mumbai and Chennai.

Petrol rate is the highest in Mumbai and diesel rate is the highest in Chennai. Petrol and diesel prices on Saturday were also hiked by 20 paise and 30 paise, respectively. However, the diesel rate in Mumbai was increased by only 7 paise on Saturday.

The government had on Thursday reduced the fuel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre, out of which the Centre has slashed Rs 1.50 in excise duty and the remaining Re 1 will be absorbed by the oil marketing companies.

    Petrol price lowered by a small value is just a eye wash to public. Target of thousands of crores given to Ambani should be completed before next year election. I am sure price will cross Rs. 100.00 soon. Our Feku says what congress did not do in 70 years he done within last 4 years. He is 100 percebnt correct. None expected that Petrol price will go to such an height and Indian rupee will touch the bottom. This is really incrediuble job done by this current Govt. Indians in abroad are now able to remit more indian rupees and this is a gift by current Govt for thier rule. Congress could not do this, what a shame. Bjp is thumping its own back for good job done. However, nothing to worry. As far as fools are in India bjp will come to power.

    Crude oil prices, even though much below 2014 level, major part of the price goes into taxation today. Unless govt brings down tax, there is no chance of prices coming down.

    At that time oil companies were incurring loss and Govt has to pay them by issuing oil bonds which ran to 1000s of crores which MODI govt paid back with interest. Even khangress had not paid IRAN 10000s of crores for supply of crude that lian also cleared by MODI with interest

    Your last two sentences are right and excellent. By the diminishing value of rupee, the Yen loan taken for bullet train, the future govts may probably have to pay ten fold in rupees in the future till the end of 50 years. Modi had turned Gujarath as the state with highest per capita loan.
