BJP MP backs Nana Patekar, says India's #MeToo start of wrong practice

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS): Describing the #MeToo movement in India as the beginning of a "wrong practice", BJP MP Udit Raj on Tuesday supported actor Nana Patekar and questioned actress Tanushree Dutta for speaking up after a decade.

"The #MeToo campaign is necessary but what is the meaning of accusing someone of sexual harassment after 10 years? After years how can it be possible to verify the facts of the events?

"It must also be considered that it can ruin the image of the person who has been accused. It is the beginning of a wrong practice," the Bharatiya Janata Party (MP) from northwest Delhi tweeted in Hindi.

His remarks came after Tanushree in an interview in September, in the context of the #MeToo Movement and sexual harassment of women in Bollywood, spoke out of her personal experience at the hands of Nana Patekar on the set of "Horn 'OK' Pleassss" in 2008.

Last week, Tanushree also filed a written complaint on the same at the Oshiwara police station here.

"Nana Patekar's behaviour was inappropriate towards me, he was on the set despite (the fact) his work in the song was over. He grabbed me by the arm and pushed me towards him around on the pretext of teaching me how to dance," read one part of the complaint.

On his part, Nana has consistently denied the accusation.

In 2008 too, he had held a press conference to dismiss the allegations.

Last week, on being confronted by the media, he said he had answered the questions about it 10 years ago. "Jhooth toh jhooth hi hai (a lie is a lie)," Nana said.

The #MeToo campaign has opened a can of worms with big names like Alok Nath and hints at Minister M J Akbar being penned down in the list of "Sexual Offenders" being openly called out on social media.

But this is not all that this campaign has done.

This has shaken the very core of the Men in India.

A lot of Men (not all) are going about huddling up and murmuring that this campaign does not bode well.

One can almost see them ganging up and saying, that this gives an opportunity to the women to target "innocent" men and muddy their reputations without a cause.

While there might be some truth in this, what I, personally, have noticed is that the Men have now started to feel cornered.

There are open calls about "No Man is Safe" from this campaign.

"It could be your Brother, your Husband, your Father", the Men say.

We, Men, are obviously worried. We are feeling victimized.....scared.....hunted.

And that too for no fault of our own.

    But you know what??

This is exactly how the Women in India have felt for all their life.

When they go out on the streets....
    When they go to colleges.....
When they go to their jobs....
When they are in their own houses....
    When they take public transport....
When they are with their own families and within their social circles ....

An inappropriate touch, a groping in the crowd, ogling at their breasts, nasty comments passed about their bottoms, a seemingly friendly advance trying to inch closer to a more advantageous position......

The Women of India go through this on a daily basis.

    Everyday .... Every moment.

The Women of India also feel the same.

Victimized .... Scared .... Hunted ... For no fault of their own.

And they have been feeling this since years and years.

So, all you Men who are now feeling this, are just one step closer to what EVERY WOMAN feels EVERY DAY.

Perhaps this will make you realize what a hellish life the women lead when they are the prey and the Men are the predators.

The #MeToo movement is going to throw up a lot more names and some of them would be unjust accusations too. But, it is something which needs to happen.

It is something that needs to be supported.

The Women need to be listened too, irrespective of what your opinion is without slut shaming her ... Why?? Because its her RIGHT.

The accused Men need to clarify, without being called "rapists" in the absence of evidence.... Why? Because the Women deserve an explanation.

And finally, the movement needs to be supported because this is going to bring India, one step closer to tackling the issue of Sexual Harassment, by actually accepting it.

This is going to bring the Indian Men, one step closer to understanding the concept and importance of "Consent".

Whether I believe every accusation or not, whether I react to every story or not, I firmly support the #MeToo Movement and stand by the Women, irrespective of whether I know them or not...... Do You?

Disclaimer: For every Man who says #NotAllMen .... do remember #YesAllWomen

Agreed Mr. Peter! It’s high time at least those “#Not All Men” should support the #MeToo Movement as a gesture of solidarity towards all those women who have genuinely suffered suffer sexual harassment at the hands of their powerful bosses or superiors or those had to suffer without recourse to resistance or to redress their sufferings.

Those who backing tanushree datta should watch her earlier films ! and for the accusations the film industry itself is corrupt with regard to the woman they portraying on silver screen !

Datta is loser who failed miserably every aspect of life and no one buying her talent and she started #METOO like slave of Western culture and abusing her own country and all the citizens of this country ! The media is trailing the whole issue instead of judiciary.

How many movies we watching nowadays which lost moral values and ethics. we iNDIAN s has got bad habit of following western culture one of the classic example is #METOO !

Let me make the facts simpler for you.
Sunny leone subjecting herself to various sexual adventures on her porn movies is okay because she is doing it at her own will. No one has the right misbehave with her citing the example of her past porn movies.
Thanushree datta's earlier dance sequences does not render any right to Patekar to misbehave with her.

May be true, but society has changed a lot in ten years and women cannot tolerate degradation and misbehaviour by their male friends - even husbands (in the marital conttext) any longer. #ME TOO movement has emboldened them to come out just as the LGBTWs have in the same period of time. Human dignity has to re-assert itself. But digging up the past that might have or might not have happened thirty years earlier (as in the case of the US SC judge nominee recently) is plainly wrong. The criminal law should provide a limitation period for such allegations as well as prosecutions.

The #MeToo goes against the "Indian culture" propagated by the RSS and BJP.

With the RSS/BJP's "Indian culture", India is permanently on the high moral ground right across the world.

According to them, it is the Western Culture that has all the symptoms of evil attached to it.

Now what do we do considering that we roll in the mud like all the other pigs in the world?
