Cop hit in militant firing in J&K


Srinagar, Oct 11 (IANS): Militants on Thursday fired at and injured one Special Police Officer (SPO) in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district even as a cordon and search operation was underway in Kupwara, police said.

SPO Bilal Ahmad who was in Karimabad village of Pulwama has been shifted to a hospital, a police officer said.

Meanwhile, the security forces were engaged in a combing operation in Batgund village of Handwara tehsil in Kupwara following specific information about the presence of militants there.

All educational institutions in the area have been shut and mobile Internet service in the district was suspended as a precautionary measure, authorities said.
