Rahul Gandhi meets HAL employees, says country owes you a debt

Bengaluru, Oct 13(DC): Rahul Gandhi on Saturday met with former and serving employees of the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited or HAL, amid allegations and counter-allegations over the Rafale fighter jet deal and its offset clause.

Scaling up his attack on Narendra Modi government, Rahul Gandhi has claimed that Dassault, the firm that makes the Rafale jet, had been pressured by the government to select Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence as its offset partner, instead of the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The government has rubbished Gandhi's claim.

Gandhi, who is "standing in support" of HAL, met and interacted with the employees of the public sector unit outside its headquarters in Bengaluru.

"HAL is not just a company. When India got independence, India built some strategic assets to enter specific areas. HAL is a strategic asset to take India into aerospace," Gandhi said at the meeting.

"The work you've done for this country is tremendous and the country owes a debt to you," he added.

"I have come here to listen to you how this strategic asset can be made more effective and the type of difficulties you are facing," the Congress president said.

The Congress on its Twitter handle also shared excerpts from the meeting as well as comments made by former and current HAL employees. The Congress chief earlier said there was a need to "defend the dignity of India's defenders" as he accused the government of "snatching" the Rafale offset contract from HAL.

"HAL is India's strategic asset. The future of India's aerospace industry has been destroyed by snatching #Rafale from HAL & gifting it to Anil Ambani," the Congress president had tweeted ahead of his visit.

"Come defend the dignity of India's defenders. I am in Bengaluru to stand with HAL's employees. Join me outside HAL HQ," he added.

Rahul Gandhi has been attacking the Modi government over the Rs 58,000 crore Rafale fighter jet deal accusing the prime minister of "corruption".

The Congress President also met with Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Ours is "Mixed economy", originated from Nehru. where in both Public and Private sectors are encouraged to deliver the best and should be.
The current world order is very much open to Private sectors, where in one has to deliver to be live, unlike Public sectors, many of them already closed or have become White elephant or lethargic.
Nationalisation of banks is one such example.

RaGa is injecting politics into this HAL organization. Soon this HAL will turn into another JNU. The HAL are incapable of manufacturing such aircraft. The lack expertise, man power or what ever. Even during the UPA regime they were sidelined while sophesticated aircrafts were procured. The logic is simple we always strive for something better. My question is, Will Pappu send his ailing mom to a muncipal hospital in India???? Definetly NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's wrong if private sector ventures out to manufacture jets and other army and naval requirements.HAL has many projects on hand , unfortunately their output and technology has not improved in the last 70 years, inspite having no competitors in India. With Private sector taking up the challenge to improve the technology and production, there will be more employment opportunities for our bright talented youngester, with high pay packages. HAL being government organisations has to run on the whims of politicians, and if by quirk of fate a joker like Rahul gets power after next election , the technology in HAL may even revert back to 19th century.

The Mr, Bean of India & his party Congress are playing a dangerous game, trying to seed discord among the HAL staff. He did a similar thing at JNU. JNU has now become a beehive of Anti-Nationals & Maoists. Hope HAL employees are wise enough to understand the main reason behind this dirty move of Bean and his party. The reason for Dassault keeping away from HAL, was the Middlemen, like Quattrochi, getting involved. HAL is very much aware of those middlemen when UPA discussed the Rafale deal.

As per your esteemed philosphy; When British left, how was India? Modi appeared in 2014 and said Abraka Dabra with his magic Wand and Voila! We now have Roads, Airports, Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Infrastructure since we didnt have any of these until 2014 - everything from Dust in 2014 to Global power in 2018.

Don't be so naive and comment just for the sake of commenting . Just have some common sense before concluding.

Well, if you don't know HAL and many other PSUs came into existence much much before 2014. For a detailed account as to what India achieved under the rule of Congress right after Independence, just listen to your own Sushma Swaraj's address at UNO last year. It's available in YouTube. And to know what India achieved after 2014, again listen to your own Subramanian Swamy's interview this week in Huffington Post, he clearly says we have failed miserably economically and only with Hindutva card Modi will come back to power.

HAL is burdened by manufacturing so many air crafts, to name a few ,indigenously built Tejas , Russian Sukois also rebuilding Mig 19. Dassault did the right thing selecting Reliance defence. Even UPA has also selected Mukesh Ambanis Reliance during initial deal which they cancelled later.
HAL is a premier organisation of the indian ministry of defence. It'is an old player in the defence aviation- manufacturing field. We must understand that manufacturing airplanes is a big thing, then manufacturing fighter jets with multitude of orders in limited time-frame, which is then subjected to the highest level scrutiny by IAF, is on a league of its own. HAL on multiple occasions has not just established itself as an important player in this field, but now after years of service it has become a behemouth in military avation, not just in India but around the globe. Take SU-30 MKI (Manufactured Koperated Indeski) for example 1 unit of SU 30 MKI cost 358 crore, with a total of 250 aircrafts already delivered and another 80 in line HAL has achieved an awesome feat in less than a decade. For all who may not know that is a 4.5 generation air superiority fighter and is the crown of Indian air-force, this is just one aircraft from a huge roster of aircrafts in HAL's arsenal. That’s what is HAL.
Rahul is just beating around the bush without any knowledge about HAL.
