Tiruvanantapuram: Controversy Around Yeddyurappa's Elephant Donation

Daijiworld Media Network - Tiruvanantapuram (SP)

Tiruvanantapuram, Nov 8: After activists of  organizations fighting for the rights of wild animals raised their voices against the donation of an elephant by Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to a temple in Kerala, a controvery over the issue has arisen.

The activists have pointed out to various legal requirements necessary for legalising donation of  wild elephants. They have pointed out, that under the circumstances, those donating the elephants can do so only if they have been declared legally bankrupt.

Based on the complaint, head of the Kerala wildlife department J K Tiwari has instructed the divisional forest officer of Kannur to conduct an investigation into the incident and submit report thereof. Tiwari said, that the department had not received any request for permission to donate the elephant and that no permission was given by it for the same. However, the department will find out as to whether any lower level official had permitted the donation, he explained.

'Elephant Lovers,' a Trissur-based organization has alleged, that none of the 12 pre-conditions for wild animals donation had been complied with, by the Karnataka chief minister.

The National Wilflife Corporation, formed under the chairmanship of the prime minister in 2005, had imposed restrictions on the elephant donation oby the government and heads of administrations, after the donation of an elephant by the ex Tamilnadu chief minister  Jayalalitaa to Guruvayur temple kicked up a row.

Let Gaja rule the forest and Yeddi rule with the people democratically. Let the animals be in their habitat and we not act like beasts!

Srinath, if there are many issues to be solved that doesn't mean that Yeddy can break rules.Do you think if Treesa Thomas' problem is not solved, Kerala government cannot look into any other problem? My suggestion is free the elephant and put Yeddy in the cage along with other wild animals, definitely even a wild elephant is less harmful than Yeddy.

Isn't it even Bhasmasura's wish was granted by Lord Shiva? I suppose, to make good of a grant or not is ultimately decider of the destiny. CM has already started as "Bhasmasura". Need to wait for Mohini!

Why new issues are creating? Its surely targetting our state CM. There are many more issues to be solved out. This is not a issue which affect our national development. Silly reasons and some people make it a big issue. Let Kerala Govt first give justification for the alligation done by the relatives of Treesa Thomas, a nun at the Divine Mary Convent at Anchal in Kollam district, 50 km from Thiruvananthapuram. Then, they can solve this Elephant issue.

Yeddy has done human atrocities in the name of religion and irresponsible administration, now he is doing the same on wild animals and on the nature. He finds all solutions at the door step of temples. Shame on you yeddy.

The wild elephant is the property of the forest and it has the freedom to be in the wild. Atrocities against the animal by curtailing its freedom has to be stopped. We need to promote the cause of the animals.
